Default Put a Candle in the Window

I know this is really late, but is anyone else absolutely head over heals for this song? I really really wish a full version had made it on to Mirage, or Tango for that matter. Chris's voice is silken, the melody is great, and it really harkens back to her pre Lindsey/Stevie Fleetwood Mac songs. Also, I love getting a glimpse of the songwriting process. It's interesting how Stevie always has tons of lyrics that are then shaped into songs, but Chris had the melody and just one verse but the song was there.

Anyway, I just really love this song and was wondering what other people thought.

I really enjoy her performance of the song, too, though I'm not sure she wrote it. The packaging does not give song credits or publishing information for the extras.

It doesn't remind me of her ore-BN days but rather as a prelude to what she would do with her 1984 solo album, minus all the production gloss. I prefer her voice and music stripped down, as it is here.

Five years later, I’m wondering if anyone else thinks about this 1/2 finished song.

I think 'slip your hand inside of my glove' works better than 'put your candle in my window', but other than that I like the energy and instrumentation. I'd like to think the chords would have been noodled with a bit in the final version because it's a bit flat as is.

The song has a lot of possibilities. Agreed that some clever arranging could have made it sparkle. She sounds great singing it, so I’m not sure why she wouldn’t have carried it to completion for her solo album.

Those grooves are priceless. You can hear her doing what she does on a Fender, only on a ac. piano.

Definitely. Many of those run throughs and early versions on the MIRAGE deluxe feature some up-front piano playing, such as on “Smile at You.” And there’s that “Eyes of the World/Enchanted” jam where she’s banging the keys pretty hard.
