There are certain similarities, but this guy has gone way over the top. It's not like Peter never "borrowed" licks and lines from all kinds of people, mainly old bluesmen. The similarities between Peter's "Leaving Town Blues" and Arthur Crudup's "If I Get Lucky" are way closer than what Dylan's done here. It's always been like that.

Yeah, Dylan is to music like Tarantino to filmmaking. It's like a Zelig! I don't know where I read thie definition Robert Plant made of bluesmen, but it went something like: 'band of beggars and thieves'. Bob suits that definition but with almost all music genres
Did you notice this, forum administrators? QUOTE : UPDATE: To my friends at ledge.fleetwoodmac.net: While I wait to be approved to post on your forum, you're absolutely right. I went overboard in this post. Being a fan of Peter's since 'Pious Bird', I sometimes feel a little overprotective towards the man and his art. That a few pints might have influenced the post is beside the point. However, I don't back down from my premise. Let's just say, Bob Dylan played a tribute to 'Black Magic Woman' and Peter Green with this song. I just hope someday Bob pays a similar tribute on his radio show, if he hasn't already. Love ya, Bob, and Peter, too. |
