Default What the hey is Down on Rodeo about?

Ok now...i like LB, always have. Mainly I only listen to his FM stuff. But GOS (do we ledgies have enough suffixes?) got me to better appreciate his, um, unusual music. I really like the arrangement or Down on Rodeo right down to the guitar solo. But what the FRICK is he saying? Why must he MUMMBLE his way through the whole song? He sounds WORSE than Brian Wilson with a mouth full of marbles doing a Bob Dylan impersonation (on key though). I can only pick up one or two words per stanza and I only know he is say ing “down on rodeo” because that happens to be what the MP3 is called. If not for that fact I probably think he was singing about (children close your ears) “going down on a hoe” (the Britney Spears variety, not the garden tool). Can someone please tell me WHY he has to sing that why? He can do so much better and more of his music would actually be playable on the radio I feel. He did a great job on Peacemaker “the GOS version” (if you can understand the words under the layers of LB overdub) and Steal your heart away and Bleed to Love Her.

Yea, some have mistaken it for 'Down On Lonley Road' etc. I think this song is about him and Stevie making it big for the first time, and the toll it took on them.

First 'Down On Lonely Road' now 'Go Down On a Hoe'! All much more interesting screen names I could have used! Hahah

But yeah, if you're having trouble with Lindsey's 'singing' on the GOS tracks (like everyone else does or did), just pop over to BuckinghamNick.net and look up the song you're after in the 'Speculation' index, where Nancy does a top-up job of deciphering the vocals. Lol, I've always pictured her in a sort of CSI room with lots of monitors and speakers around her, analyzing the sound waves

lol! I wish! I've listened to them all countless times on headphones, striving to get what he's saying, but still I have to say - your guess is as good as mine.

That is hysterical!!

I think BG is right, it's about Lindsey and Stevie's time before they were in FM. Walking down Rodeo Drive looking at the expensive crap in the windows and wishing they could hit the big time so they could have that nice crap. LOL

"After the music ended
There's nowhere to go but down..."

That says to me that when BN was a flop, they were down and out (in Beverly Hills LOL).

But then again, who KNOWS what any of LB's songs REALLY mean.

Default Down on Rodeo...

IMHO>>>I always thought this was about two young singers
coming down to LA trying to make it big in the music business.
Wandering down Rodeo Drive... with all the wealthy stars and
seeing their reflection in the fancy boutique windows wishing
they could Make IT BIG and be Rich! Stevie said.."I was tired of
being poor...of having no money!" I Know that Feeling!!!
They HIT Musical pay dirt in 1975!

ps...Lindsey always says his Lyrics are intentionally AMBIGUOUS
meaning: Uncertain...Open to Interpretation...Doubtful! hahaha!

When I first heard the title of the song "Down on Rodeo," I was like WTF, what does Lindsey know about rodeos. LOL. I was thinking clowns and bareback riding.

Then when I heard the song I was like "oh down on Ro-dae-o," Drive.

What can I say, when you live in Idaho you have rodeos every other weekend, it was the first thing that came to my mind! So now everytime I hear that song, I think of that.

I have so many vivid childhood memories of rodeo experiences in outback places that this song, even though I know it's about Rodeo Drive, has a double meaning to me. It's got that country-like guitar powering it, and I guess it gets me a bit sentimental thinking about my childhood on one hand ... and then SnL's on the other!

lol!

I totally agree with Christy's interpretation. Christy, if you meet him in November, why don't you ask him if that's what the song is about..? And remember to phrase it EXACTLY like that....!lol!
