You have no need to take someone prisoner when you've broken their will.
You've beaten them down... they're at your mercy now.

I do like the original lyric better but as stated...

...the new does make sense as well. It's still the overall impression created by the entire set of lyrics that I like.

Lightbulb Hmmm....

Just a dumb thought, but what IF the ALBUM VERSION of the song (we haven't heard THAT one have we? LOL) says only kill on it????? Perhaps, the SINGLE VERSION for radio says break their will because only kill is TOO HARSH for radio???

We can only hope!! LOL I like only kill better...and everytime I listen to the song, I'm singing "only ki....oops...break their will." LOL

I hope not. If you're going to do it, just do it. It was a bad change, though I see Johnny Stew's point. It's probably another example of the band caving to commercial interests.

I mean, what if Bob Marley had changed the song to "I snubbed the sheriff" for commercial purposes?

That reminds me of the Simpsons episode where Krusty The Klown (in a parody of the Doors' appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show), asks the Red Hot Chili Peppers to change the lyric, "what I got, you've gotta get it, put it in you," to "what I want, I want to hug and kiss you."

At first they balk, stating that their lyrics are like their children, but once they hear Krusty's alternate lyrics, they say, "wow, now everybody can enjoy it!"

Good point! I snubbed the sherrif!hahaha!Good One!
Is that perhaps...more...politically correct? When Stevie
sings on his lyrics then it is a softer song for her perhaps!
IMHO...They should have kept this one...masculine!!!Sky
