JTIS I can't sleep again. So I'm up, listening to music and trying to zone out.
My aunt had a birthday BBQ the other night, so I dragged Cute Guitar Boy along. As CGB was noodling around on my dad's guitar, he played the acoustic version of Testament's "The Legacy" so beautifully, I just might've seen stars: "Flashes of the day, I knew that I was here to stay, but no one knows my name..." Live at the Fillmore is a great album, because it also has the absolutely gorgeous acoustic versions of "Return to Serenity" (probably my personal favorite) and "Trail of Tears." Testament is one of my all-time fav bands, and it really doesn't get much better anywhere, ever than these songs. Excellent listening, highly recommended, even if you're not a metal fan.

And is Cute Guitar Boy the one with the the dark curly hair, blue eyes, and working on a beard? (I tend to get the guys in your many stories mixed up, but I still managed to remember Boy What Carries Things) JTIS, there's a possiblity that my dad might be getting a job in Jersey, but it'll be 2 years before I move there, and at least it'll still be in the New York area (at one time, when he was out of work, he was looking at a job in rural Pennsylvania). |

I hate the fact that some people are just always going to let you down. No matter how much you want to think otherwise.
JTIS.

But yay! Testament is amazing. So is Iced Earth - good choice there. For Testament albums to start with, my fav are Souls of Black and The Ritual, but CGB insists I tell you to also try Practice What You Preach first, so any of those would be good. And here are some more awesome bands to check out if you are not already familiar: Opeth - Blackwater Park is my favorite album of theirs. It is frackin' great. Try "Bleak" and see what you think. Strapping Young Lad - Anything Devin Townsend (and his Mighty Skullet) does is amazing. Try "Love?" and see what you think. Acid Bath - These guys only did two albums before the bass player died, but they are phenomenal. The vocalist, Dax, has since had many other projects, though. Try "Graveflower."

^ I love that gif above. I know it has to be from 'The Chain' Mirage home video, yes?
She sure looks like she's slapping that tambourine like it's someone's face. About the right height, too! Last edited by Nikolaj; 09-25-2010 at 02:55 PM.. |

Last night I had this interesting dream that I decided to try out for the local tryouts of American Idol. The cutoff age is 28 so I figured I'd go in there as a 28 year old with a fake name and fake Birthday and audition. I planned on singing one of my own songs a capella, but wasn't sure if I'd be allowed to. There were 7 people auditioning.
Because I was so nrevous I went outside when the others were doing their thing so when it was my turn I had no idea what the program was. Just before I got on the stage they tell me they will play a music track of some random song and I'm supposed to know the words and sing to it. No one knows what song they will use and if you don't know the words you are supposed to fake your way through it. The music starts and I can't believe it is in the middle of the song Go Your Own Way. So I start singing and I can't believe my luck; a Fleetwood Mac song! Then after about 30 seconds the music switches to Second Hand News and as I'm singing it I'm thinking to myself, "I am so off key." They were very kind in their dismissal of me but I knew I wasn't gonna win. It was a fun experience though. |
