Question Who are these extra musicians and what do they do?

I got bored tonight so I went up to Wal-Mart and picked up Say You Will.

Under additional performers it lists several people, Sheryl Crow, Chris ()and a few dudes, Jamie Muhobasomething, Dave Palmer, John Pierce, and John Shanks.

I hate when bands do this! I like when they list the additional performances under the printed lyrics for the song a la the Stones Voodoo Lounge, etc.

What do these extra people do and on what songs? I'd especially like to know where Sheryl Crow is because I've played it through a few times and haven't heard her anywhere. Thanks Mr. Stew for telling me where to find Christine! (although she's barely audible...urrgh)

Thanks

I've heard that Sheryl Crow played keyboards and contributed background vocals to "Say You Will", although I can't really hear it. Also, I think she may have done something on "Silver Girl", since Stevie wrote that song about her.

I agree with you about Christine. It's very hard to hear her on the 3 songs she's on, even listening with headphones. It would have been nice if they'd specifically mentioned her specific contributions in the liner notes, since that's the main reason I bought the album in the first place.

Christine is actually just on two songs, "Bleed to Love Her" and "Steal Your Heart Away".

I'd imagine that John Shanks in on one of the songs that he produced. I'm not sure off the top of my head which songs those are...I know one is "Peacekeeper"...the other might be "Whats the World Coming To".

I can't hear her vocals at all on Say You Will, as far as keyboards, they're mixed just like Christines. As a matter of fact, Sheryl did those keyboard parts JUST like Christine would have. There's some rhythmic chordal work on the piano for verses and chords on the hammond for the chorus. You can definately hear it but it's mixed for for texture, much like Christine's keyboard parts were mixed.

It really bums me out that you can't hear Christine on those songs. I feel that if she's not on the album, she's not on the album. Leave her parts out. I didn't plan on her absence hurting the album but it does. I've been listening to it on and off all night and there isn't much about the album I like besides a few good, not great songs. I'll see if it grows on me.

As far as these other guys, what do they do?

Crow is on Say You Will, the song, but you can't hear her at all. On Silver Girl, you can really hear her during the chorus.

It's just like Diamond Road on Sheryl's last album; Stevie sang on it but no one could hear her at all.

I believe that in a recent interview when Stevie refers to "John" playing keyboards because she and LB do not really play them that well, she is referring to John Shanks.

Sheryl Crow plays the Hammond Organ on Say You Will and sings the high "say you wills" in the 3rd chorus.

Thanks for the answers

Im assuming those other guys did some assorted keyboards throughout the album then, because there are some really mechanical, sequenced-sounding synth parts on the album.

I posted on this a while back and this is info to the best of my knowledge and what I believe to be correct...

Dave Palmer plays piano on Steal Your Heart Away. He is a Jazz piano player who has recorded some Jazz Trio albums of his own.

Christine sings on Steal Your Heart Away and Bleed to Lover Her. She also plays piano on Steal Your Heart Away. I believe in typical Lindsey fashion he took parts of both playing the same thing and mixed and matched it through the song. The piano is way down in the mix anyway.

John Pierce the current bass player the from Huey Lewis and the News played some bass in the early sessions of Lindsey' s solo project and a few odd bass lines of his are on the album.

Jamie Muhoberac is the keyboard player from Bob Seger's Silver Bullet Band. He play the Hammond Organ on Come.

Sheryl Crow adds vocals to Silver Girl.

John Shanks Plays some of the keyboards on What's the World Coming To and Peacekeeper.

Stevie throws is in the odd keyboard part on the album.

The majority of the rest of the keyboard parts are played by Lindsey. His keyboards of choice seem to be a Korg Triton and a Yamaha Motif 8

I believe Chris also played electric piano on "Bleed To Love Her", although like the piano on "Steal Your Heart Away", it is extremely hard to hear because of the way it's mixed. I've also heard that that she sings harmony in the chorus of "Miranda", too.

Doesn't she also sing on "Miranda"? On the solo album track, she has some backup vocals on "Miranda." Maybe Fleetwood Mac mixed her out of that one. But according to Needham, Chris definitely sang on "Miranda" years back.

From what I saw/heard/was told she is not on the finished product of Miranda. Just the two previously mentioned songs. However, with Lindsey's penchant for using so many recorded tracks and then mixing things way down to the point of non-recognition it would not surprise me that all sorts of undocumented stuff is on that album.

I believe it was mentioned she played the keyboard "riff" on "Running Through The Garden" (during the "never did I mean to..." part), and also on "Silver Girl".

What about John (McVie)? Was it confirmed that he played some of the keyboard parts on the album? He's just credited with "black keys", which seems a weird, weird credit.

John Run posted info about that one earlier. If I remember correctly, he said that John (McVie) shadowed his bass parts with the black keys of a synthesizer.
