Also, him and his son should not be able to legally enter the apartment without your approval. However, I know you want to get out ASAP. So I think seeing if there is maybe someone who can help you out would be a great idea. Or possibly taking out a payday loan. I know they charge a lot in interest, but most don't check your credit. Last year I was able to take out a $600 loan and pay it back $110 a month for six months. And I'd rather pay 10% interest in a six month period than put myself, my family, or my things at risk. I wish I was working right now because I'd definitely wire you some money if I had it
Ahhh, you are a sweetie, but it is good (sort of?) that you are not working, because you should not be wiring money to strangers on the Intarnets. They might use it for crack or donuts or whatever it is the kids are into these days.

I am SO leery of the payday loan places, but if they let you spread it out over several months, that might be doable. Thank you for the suggestion - I will look into it, see what the places around here offer.

I know they are not legally allowed to enter like that, but they've done it before - these people are bad people, and while I would love to wave my arms around and pitch a fit at them right now, I need to get away from them first before I'd feel...safe...doing that. If that makes sense.

We did have a verbal agreement, though, you are right. I am not sure how I go about backing that up, but we did have one.

Trust me, verbal means NOTHING, without witness, and probably not, even then. NOTHING. Your lease, is a binding, legal contract(based upon anything in it, being LEGAL, in your state. Anything that doesn't apply, legally, will be thrown out, by the judge).

Oh god, I would avoid those payday loan places, like the black plague! Just sayin'..... don't do it.

This may seem stupid, but do you have any gold you could get rid of? I have seen people get a lot of money for gold lately.

Zombie- I'm so sorry to hear about your situation. That sort of thing happened a lot when I was a kid. We were broke all the time. Not to be nosy or anything, but how much short were you on the rent?

Annie-
It's my turn to reach out and give you a virtual hug. I have been reading your posts and everyone's response however sometimes I don't read good so I might repeat something someone else said.

Okay first off, I SWEAR there is some law about landlords evicting people who have kids. Something about not throwing you out on your ass when you got mouths to feed. Second, don't be afraid of public assistance. I had to march my ass down to the food stamp/welfare office before...my kids have been on Medicaid and Alkids at different times. As much as I wanted to hold onto my pride and figure it out myself I decided I better do something. It's getting cold outside and Christmas is coming up...you gotta do what you gotta do. I know we live in different states but I'll tell you what I know about the social services system here if you just want a general idea of how it all works. I'm not sure if you've already considered this route or have been down it before.

In the meantime, I have plenty of extra room for a mommy and a couple more midgets. If you're up for a longggg drive.

Keep us posted

Annie *moar virtual hugs*

Is there anything the police, or even your neighbors can do, to 'keep an eye' on your stuff? I suppose that's more a neighbor thing. Are there any US laws that say the police can provide protection or, at least, supply a direct number to the closest officer? I know that in the UK you can get an incident number which puts you straight through to someone at the closest station and an officer can be there in minutes.

If you could get said number, are any of your neighbors to whom you could give it to if anything did happen while you were out?

I hope things start looking up

Zom-beh, I feel awful for you. I am just amazed that despite all of the crap going on in your real-life, you still manage to come here to your Ledge-life to spread your humor and good spirits. Geez! I thought I was having a bad year!

I know this may be the last thing you'd want, but I think it would be great if we could pass around a virtual collection plate on your behalf via PayPal. And it's not like it's a handout; I am sure you would pay everyone back as soon as you are able. And if you are unable to pay everyone back, that's fine too; consider it an early Christmas gift. If you are only 10 days behind on your rent, I suspect we are not talking about a tremendous amount of money, so I am sure we can make up the shortfall here.

Great idea. I wouldn't be able to help money wise, but I'm more than willing to send a care package for you to help brighten your mood.

Thumbs down

Dear Zombie:

This is a terrible situation. It is time to stand up for your rights.

Allow me a moment, when I was in my 20s, I came upon two similar situations with psychotic landlords. In both situations, I won.

1) take photographs of anything psycho places on your door.
2) change your locks - you have a right to do this based on previous illegal entrance.
3) call the police
4) find paper as large as your door and front window, duct tape the crap out of the one on the inside of your window. In big bold red lettering, describe that you are currently being harrassed by the landlord of the complex and that in no circumstance does anyone have legal right to enter these premises. take photographs of your art project.
5) contact a landlord/tenant advocate.
6) file a small claims case for harrassment and dilapidated living conditions.
7) if anyone comes to your door, landlord or son, have recorder placed on floor at door to record all conversation; a great tool for capturing verbals.

please describe your complex; are there a small amount of units, is it a rental house, or a large apartment complex?
