Big Love (Great lead single, provocative ooh/aahs, and strong [now dated] video)
Seven Wonders (Soaring Stevie vocal, even if not self penned - she did get a writing credit, surprised it didn't chart better)
Everywhere (likable if not recycled Christine pop song)
Caroline (justifies the exotic album cover and is intense in the drums, rhythmic beat, and howls)
Tango In The Night (mesmerizing, haunting and shimmering)
Mystified (boring, but her vocal is sweet)
Little Lies (popular appeal and incorporates all the Mac voices, exemplifies Christine's songwriting prowess)
Family Man (nonsensical, Popeye derivative of a song, however the remixed version was more tolerable)
Welcome To The Room...Sara (I do like this song but Lindsey tried to put this tribal thing on Stevie's song and it didn't altogether work. It failed worse when he tried the same thing on the Say You Will version of Smile at You. Dave Stewart did it on In Your Dreams' Wide Sargasso Sea where it did actually work.)
Isn't It Midnight (Love Christine when she rocks a little, and here she rocks a lot - a stand out track)
When I See You Again (weakest of Stevie's contributions but this song still has lots to like about it, especially the cricketish percussion and the call and response ending between her and Lindsey)
You And I, Part II (Upbeat ending to the album what could have instead been When I See You Again and the Part II suggested there was always a Part I - which shimmers beautifully itself)

Here are the songs I like most:

1. Welcome to the room Sara
(please don't kill me!!!)

2. Isn't It Midnight
(I didn't like it too much at first, but it has grown on me).

3. Seven Wonders
(Not Stevie's best work with FM... But its an OK song, I suppose).

4. Big Love
(I prefer the accoustic version from the Dance).

5. Little Lies
(I really do not know why I like it).
I think TANGO is probably Mac's 4th best album. It's more focused than MIRAGE.

My favorite tracks:

1. Little Lies
2. Seven Wonders
3. Tango In The Night
4. Everywhere
5. Big Love
6. Isn't It Midnight
7. You And I, Part II

So-so:

8. Mystified
9. Family Man

Meh:

10. Welcome To The Room, Sara
11. When I See You Again
12. Caroline

1) Tango In The Night
2) Isn't It Midnight
3) Big Love
4) You and I Part I and II
5) Mystified
6) Everywhere
7) Seven Wonders
8) Caroline
9) Family Man
10) Welcome to the Room Sara
11) When I See You Again
12) Little Lies

I love all the songs. But, I'm really sick of Little Lies. Besides the intro, which has a haunting chord progression. That's pure Christine comp.

Red face

I listened to the whole album today (for the first time in a while!)... I still really like it. It's always been one of my favourites because of these songs:

Little Lies
Isn't It Midnight
Big Love
Everywhere
Seven Wonders
Tango In The Night

The rest of the tracks are lesser faves, but I enjoy things about each of them. For example, the last minute or so of When I See You Again is beautiful.

I also prefer the first three and a half minutes of You and I, Pt II (the 6+ minute version from the Deluxe edition) much more than the original version on the album.

I'm going to say something a bit heretical: I don't much care for Everywhere. I don't think it's bad per se. I'm just not so keen on it as most everyone else seems to be.

Also, and this may be less heretical, I'm not too keen on the album version of Big Love (love Lindsey's solo version).

favorites are:

Little Lies
Tango In The Night
Seven Wonders
Caroline
Family Man

On Everywhere, I agree completely. I like it okay, but it was never a favorite. Little Lies kicks it's ass.

On Big Love, I disagree. Big Love acoustic was my pee song. If they'd done it full band, I wouldn't have had a pee song. I'd have needed some Depends!

I also agree with you. The live version is really good. Just imagine less computer programming and more real musicians like the live version. I think it would have been a much bigger hit. Imagine the live harmonies too. The album version never breaks out of that programmed timing. The live version just highlights how catchy the song can be. Even remakes of the song take the song to new levels.

Not a fan of Big Love either. Its the perfect and simple sugary pop song. 14 words till the simple chorus then another 14 words till the chorus again. The guitar at the end is great but it frustrates me because its only at the very end where the song is at least interesting. Almost any track off Go Insane is better.

I've said this before but Isn't It Midnight should have been the lead single. There was such anticipation for the first Mac song in 5 years. In MTV's prime I think the song would have come close to the top 10. It would have given the album depth. It also would have welcomed them on rock stations again. They had a huge list of pop hits that would have charted afterwards. It was the time to make a statement that the Mac can rock. John's bass line, Lindsey's guitar and vocals, Christine's writing and vocals just merge together for something that was really Fleetwood Mac. I just wish we could have gotten more songs like that.

I get these annoying raccoons at my house. I cant seem to keep them away. For whatever reason if I play When I see you again and Welcome to the Room Sara it seems to do the trick of keeping them at bay.
Mirage took a beating for being too pop. But good Lord, any song off Mirage is a better pop song than Tango. Gypsy, Hold Me, Love in Store crush Big Love, Seven Wonders, and Everywhere

I totally agree with this.

A single order like this:

Isn't It Midnight
Big Love
Little Lies
Seven Wonders
Everywhere

With respect to Everywhere, I think the earlier version that formed the basis of the 12" remix (and probably closer to CM's original vision) with some additional layered in harmonies would have been better on the album.

I've always found Love In Store a real snoozer..... I want to like it, but it sounds hugely unfinished to me... big long gaps with absolutely NOTHING going on. Like Lindsey wasn't around to finish producing it or something.

Interesting
The overdubbing was insane and so are the harmonies
Its one of the typical short Christine love songs like Honey Hi, Brown Eyes, Think About Me, etc
The song is all harmony and overdubs LOL
Which is why I really like it. Stevie's voice is so good 1981-1982. To hear her harmonize with both Lindsey and Christine during this time on a record is very rare but so good!

I LOVE your sense of humor(no offense, I think we have very similar senses of that- and I thank you for usually understanding mine).

I will always love Mirage. FAR more than Tango, possibly even more than Tusk. I've said since BuckVie was released, that it's Mirage, Part II. Simple pop songs. FUN.

Whassamatta baby, should keep any gaze of raccoons at bay!
