I prefer the distinction of Stevie Nicks solo work apart from Stevie's Fleetwood Mac songs. Both are a part of her legacy, yet they are they two parallel worlds. In Fleetwood Mac she is part of a family, and as a solo artist she is an independent.

Given the volume of her work, it would be somewhat unwieldy compromise to encompass both worlds in a compilation. Her Fleetwood Mac songs are infinitely more familiar, circulated and accessible. Her solo work has the integrity to stand on its own, yet a good portion of it is either obscure or unattainable.

I hope she releases more "new" music in the same manner as 24 Karat Gold. However, a new Enchanted-like box set would be welcome, featuring a complete updated iteration of all her stray songs (b-sides, soundtracks etc...), along with select tracks from her three albums since then, as well as rare songs - live, demos and alternate mixes. It could easily be a three disc set, along with a DVD!

She's already released one Mac track, "Silver Springs" on a solo compilation, so that opens the door for more. A true retrospective of her best work ought to include both. Of course, diehard fans can easily compile their own playlist. But it would be nice for more casual fans to appreciate the overall greatness she's achieved both solo and with others (Mac/duets).

So my initial list would be (assuming this all would fit onto discs):

Disc 1:

Rhiannon
Landslide
Dreams
Silver Springs (original mix)
Gold Dust Woman
Sara
Storms
Angel
Leather & Lace
Stop Draggin' My Heart Around
Kind of Woman
Blue Lamp
Sleeping Angel
That's Alright
Gypsy
Straight Back
Garbo
Beauty & the Beast

Disc 2:

If Anyone Falls
Nightbird
Stand Back
Talk to Me
Imperial Hotel
Seven Wonders
No Questions Asked
Twisted
If You Ever Did Believe
Sorcerer
Planets of the Universe (full length)
Thrown Down
Moonlight
Annabel Lee
You May Be the One
24 Karat Gold
Starshine
Belle Fleur

I have spent this past month trying to come up with the ULTIMATE Stevie Nicks playlist for my iTunes/iPod. I tried my best to sequence it just right...to make one song flow into the next and I think I've finally got my complete track listing. So yes, this is what my version of a perfect Stevie Nicks Boxed Set Anthology would look like. And yes, it includes both solo and Fleetwood Mac, like any complete and comprehensive Stevie Nicks retrospective should. I really hope something like this comes to fruition someday!
(Bear with me ~ this is long. All tracks are the regular album version unless noted as otherwise.)

Disc One
1. Sisters Of The Moon (Single Version)
2. Blue Lamp
3. The Nightmare (12" Single Remix Version)
4. Sister Honey
5. No Questions Asked
6. Alice
7. Sable On Blonde
8. How Still My Love
9. Edge Of Seventeen (Live Single B-Side Version from '81)
10. Sleeping Angel
11. Blue Water
12. If You Ever Did Believe (Practical Magic Soundtrack)
13. Whenever I Call You Friend
14. Rhiannon (Will You Ever Win ~ Single Version)
15. If You Were My Love

Disc Two
1. Docklands
2. Juliet
3. Mirror, Mirror (B-Side of "Blue Denim Cassette Single)
4. Nothing Ever Changes
5. Thrown Down (TISL Acetate Version)
6. Running Through The Garden
7. Watch Chain
8. Angel (Live 1981 Wilshire Fox Theatre)
9. Bella Donna (Live 1981 Wilshire Fox Theatre)
10. Destiny
11. Hard Advice
12. Ooh My Love
13. All The Beautiful Worlds
14. If I Were You
15. Secret Love

Disc Three
1. Candlebright
2. Gold Dust Woman
3. Frozen Love
4. Silver Springs (The Dance Version)
5. Twisted ("Twister" Soundtrack Version)
6. Greta
7. Thousand Days
8. Italian Summer
9. Wild Heart
10. Think About It
11. Gold & Braid (Live 1981 Wilshire Fox Theatre)
12. Enchanted
13. Crying In The Night
14. Fireflies
15. Sara

Disc Four
1. Dreams
2. 24 Karat Gold
3. Moonlight
4. Battle Of The Dragon
5. Bombay Sapphires (TISL Acetate Version)
6. Illume
7. Rock A Little (Extended 12" Single Version)
8. Long Way To Go (Extended 12" Remix Version)
9. Planets Of The Universe (Extended Album Version)
10. Doing The Best I Can
11. Nightbird
12. Gate & Garden
13. Violet & Blue
14. Belle Fleur
15. Blue Denim

Disc Five
1. Crystal (Practical Magic Soundtrack)
2. Beautiful Child (Alternate Mix from FM's "The Chain" boxed set)
3. Everybody Loves You
4. In Your Dreams
5. If Anyone Falls
6. I Can't Wait (Remix with slow intro from Single B-Side)
7. Rooms On Fire
8. Sorcerer
9. Gypsy (Extended Mix from FM's "The Chain" boxed set)
10. Smile At You
11. Trouble In Shangri-La
12. For What It's Worth (Radio Edit)
13. Storms
14. Julia (Take 9 from the Bella Donna Recording Sessions)
15. Goodbye Baby

To note ~ By the time something like this would hopefully come out, she would have given us three more records (Vault Songs #2, A Rhiannon Album and another solo album with new material) plus whatever songs of hers on the upcoming Mac album(s) would warrant inclusion...making this a SIX DISC anthology retrospective.

^^^ But of course that's all just wishful thinking on my part!

Because Fleetwood Mac is not Stevie Nicks and they want their Anthology to sale, not hers.

I can think of a million artists who were apart of a band that went solo that now have "essential collections" and "anthologies" that include both their band and solo work...ahem...
Gloria Estefan
Lou Reed
STING
Bryan Ferry
George Michael
MICHAEL JACKSON
Diana Ross
Kenny Loggins...
...shall I go on?

It is totally within the realm of possibility that a Stevie solo AND Mac anthology could be released. After all, Stevie's Mac songs are still copy written under her publishing company "Welsh Witch Music" plus her relationship with Mick is better than ever. It is HE, after all, who would have to give permission for "studio album Mac" songs to appear on a "Stevie Nicks" release...and I don't see why he wouldn't do that. Fleetwood Mac would also profit from it as well. It would be a win-win. Don't forget that the studio version of "Silver Springs" was on CRYSTAL VISIONS...most likely as an apology from Mick for not letting her have it for "Timespace". I seriously doubt he'd make that mistake again.

So yes, it's your opinion that it WON'T happen...and it's MY opinion that it WILL happen. Let's just agree to disagree.
