Default Buckingham Nicks referenced by Aimee Mann!

I'm going to see Aimee Mann tonight. She made an album with Ted Leo and they are touring. I was reading an article in the local paper, where they were being interviewed.

" We discussed many times, sort of jokingly,'Could we be the next John Doe and Exene Cervenka or something like that," he says.

"Wait a minute, I thought it was Buckingham Nicks," she says.

"Or Captain and Tennille," he says, making both of them laugh.

I've loved Aimee for a long time. I love her even more for her obscure and out of left field reference to Lindsey and Stevie.

Thanks for posting, I have loved "Til Tuesday and Aimee Mann since 1985. Just listened to "Til Tuesday's cd this AM. Aimee studied at Berklee school of music in Boston. She's a great singer/songwriter. Sorry I missed Aimee & Ted Leo when they played in LA a few months back. Have fun at the show!

The show was fantastic! Aimee and Ted joked and spoke at length between every song. And they closed with Voices Carry, her big hit with Til Tuesday. She rarely if ever performs song from that era. I'm a new fan of Ted Leo. They have a great chemistry between them.

Thanks. It was a very memorable show. When Aimee left Til Tuesday, she left so many great songs behind. She has never performed them ever since she established a solo career. It's as if that era never existed; erased from history!

Granted, she's had a prolific output of fantastic solo albums, but never gives a nod to any songs she wrote prior to 1988. When she closed last night's show with a very rare appearance of Voices Carry, her biggest hit with Til' Tuesday, she introduced it as if it was some ancient artifact from a thousand years ago. Funny thing is, that's when the entire audience really came alive -- stood up, sang and danced and moved closer to the stage.

It just goes to show, there are artists/musicians who wallow in past successes, and artists who choose to move forward, with the creativity and confidence, knowing that their fan base will follow. Aimee was trapped and fighting with her record company for years after Til Tuesday disbanded, so her solo career was delayed. Eventually she became one of the first artists to go independent, gaining complete control of her career.
