Default Nowness Interview with Sean Lennon and Charlotte Muhl

I found that part of the interview very moving to Nico.I am finally getting my own Lennon Signature box set later this month.I have another interview for anyone interested. They are such a cute couple. Those are some very beautiful photographs Sean took.I laughed at parts of this interview.

Nowness interview with The Goastt

Lennon's True Love
Sean Lennon Photographs Girlfriend and GOASTT Co-conspirator Charlotte Kemp-Muhl
Tuesday, November 9, 2010
The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger is the musical lovechild of Sean Lennon (the only son of John and Yoko Ono) and his model girlfriend Charlotte Kemp-Muhl, named after a play Kemp-Muhl wrote when she was a kid. As GOASTT, the couple toy with eclectic inspirations—from Victoriana to freaky folk to French scat-rap—to create a mash-up that Lennon has artfully described as a “medieval-alien hodgepodge.” In the recently released Acoustic Sessions, the first full-length album from the duo, Lennon and Kemp-Muhl offer an intimate, pared-down introduction to their quirky world, populated by phantoms, robots and magical gardens (listen to new track “Jardin du Luxembourg" . The portraits we premiere today were shot by Lennon himself, who picked up a camera to capture his oft-photographed paramour in upstate New York. (Apparently, Lennon is quite the Renaissance man: in addition to being a producer, musician and artist, he is known to be a skilled archer.) Impressed by the pair's synergy—inseparable travelers, business partners, roommates, spirited sartorialists—we thought we’d test their knowledge of one another, and asked them to answer a series of questions for each other, in the spirit of newlyweds.

What is Sean/Charlotte's most distinct memory of the day these images were shot?

Sean: Charlotte was pretty preoccupied with these seed pods she discovered that were full of silky fluff. We have no idea what they were—way glossier than cotton, and bursting out of a long, green spiked pod. I seem to recall her being obsessed with the idea of harvesting and knitting a dress from those alien fluff pods.
***
Charlotte: Sean was grappling all day with his new film camera, trying to master the analog medium with all it's manual quirks, begging me to behave and hold still as he dialed in his focus and aperture settings. Finally he flung it down and opted to dive in the lake with me, swimming to the opposite shore and back. He's quite the aquatic jock. Big lungs. Then he proceeded to show off his manly prowess via the nuanced art of stone skipping. (That was one of the highlights of the day, because of course I got competitive and tried my damnedest to oust him, but his superior hand-eye coordination trumped my flailing orangutan limbs.)

Which item of your clothing can Sean/Charlotte not stand?

Sean: She gets a little freaked out when I wear scumbag sunglasses, you know, the bling-bling type. I just think they're funny.
Charlotte: Sean is sweet about it, but I can tell he chokes back a little puke every time he catches me rocking his underwear (when I'm too lazy to do laundry!). It's the penis flap that throws him off... But I think the kangaroo pouch is fun. *

Do not miss the rest of this hilarious interview! It's all here

^ msLinds, so happy you're getting the Signature Box! I'm a Lennon completist but mainly because I love everything about his music. I even bought Sometime in New York City when it was remastered/remixed a few years ago and enjoyed [John's half]. I think his music touches me because it was so beautifully honest, poetic, passionate, and genuine. He had the most unique delivery of anyone I've ever listened to, and his voice....my GAWD.

I appreciate that interview with Sean/Charlotte on the radio program. You can see in his facial expression that discussing his father is not that easy- not because he wants all the attention on him, but because he has a lot of issues over the fact that his father was killed at such a young age, with two sons and a wife, for some dumb reason. Yoko has mentioned that John's death is something Sean is still very angry over. And in fact if you read the interview with Sean that is in the back of the Philip Norman biography you see how much he adores his dad and he does talk about how difficult it has been to come to terms with his passing.

Ok, so...I'm thinking I *may* go to New York in December. To do something in John's memory...I guess the "30th Anniversary" is really getting to me.

Default two loving songs about John from the two most prominent people in his life...

"I'm Going Away Smiling" by Yoko Ono

I'm going away smiling
thinking of our life,
how we were good for each other,
how we knew...

when I came to you I was all black and blue
you just smiled and said
your love was true
we had a great time- didn't we?
Never knew this was how it would be...

Now the boat is slowly leaving
Leaving the life I loved,
I see you standing at the pier,
trying to hide your fear

Thank you for the memories
Thank you for the laughs
I'm going away this time,
Remember no tears

"Here Today" by Paul McCartney

And If I Say I Really Knew You Well
What Would Your Answer Be?
If You Were Here Today...
Ooh- Ooh- Ooh- Here Today.

Well Knowing You,
You'd Probably Laugh And Say That We Were Worlds Apart.
If You Were Here Today.
Ooh- Ooh- Ooh- Here Today.

But As For Me,
I Still Remember How It Was Before.
And I Am Holding Back The Tears No More...
Ooh- Ooh- Ooh- I Love You, Ooh-

What About The Time We Met?
Well I Suppose That You Could Say That We Were Playing Hard To Get.
Didn't Understand A Thing.
But We Could Always Sing.

What About The Night We Cried?
Because There Wasn't Any Reason Left To Keep It All Inside.
Never Understood A Word.
But You Were Always There With A Smile.

And If I Say I Really Loved You
And Was Glad You Came Along.
If You Were Here Today.
Ooh- Ooh- Ooh- For You Were In My Song.
Ooh- Ooh- Ooh- Here Today.

Default The John Lennon Thread

Thanks Nico for posting those video's. I had seen them before. But others here interested may not have.I agree with you about that interview with Sean and your views about this. Its seems like it was and still is very hard for him to had to deal with losing his Father at such a young age and in such a violent way.In other video interviews with Sean he seems to be fighting back tears when he talks about his Dad sometimes, in public.I am getting that Signature box set of CD's.But I had to wait untill I could afford to buy it.Since I had some other expenses that recently came up.Everyone have a safe and great weekend and take care.

This is newest updates so far.I want to share here with Nico and anyone else interested.

Thank msLinds for all the great John Lennon info! And Nico those vids are interesting, thanks for sharing I would say the Yoko/Sean collaboration was way better than Paul's tribute song. I think Sean is a great solo artist, though I hear his new work with his girlfriend is great as well. Yoko takes some getting used to, any many don't get it. I'm at a respectful middle...I could take her or leave her, but I think she has been faithful to John's memory and writes from the heart. The Paul song seemed rushed, and not very heartfelt in my opinion. I do have a John bias for sure, I like alot of Paul's stuff, don't get me wrong, but this tribute is weak. I would venture to say that if the tables were turned and we'd lost Paul instead, that John would have written a much better song in Paul's memory, don't you think? Just a thought...

^ I pre-ordered "LennonNYC" because I will be out of town next week. Thank you for the video msLinds. I saw that before and it's very touching. I do believe that Julian mentioned he also became a musician because he emulated his father.

I think I'm going to see Sean in January! I love this new album, have been a fan of his for a looonnng time. It's about time!!

I think you guys will find this a funny and interested interview.I enjoyed watching this. Thanks msLinds. Elliott used to annoy me but in these Sean vids he's extremely likable. I remember that one interview he had with John back in the day when he worked as a television host. Elliot has been friends of the Lennon family for many, many years and is also their publicist as well as Bob Dylan's. Fancy that...

Elliot & John:

Sean is wonderful. His self-deprecating humor is charming. I'm going to see GOASTT in January. I must. And if Jules does something I'll support him as well. Sean though...in my opinion he's the most talented of all the Beatles offspring. Melodically gifted and an amazing musician.

I should make a Lennon mix tape with all three. But has anyone ever heard JOHN'S FATHER'S music? ...

I guess I wasn't crazy about her description to actually watch it at the present moment. I know it sounds weird but celebrating John's life for the next few weeks is more about hearing his music and watching him in interviews or even the amazing Imagine John Lennon film. No one tells John's story better than John.

This is part of the reason why this LennonNYC seems so intriguing. I prefer seeing the real thing and that is supposed to be chalk-full.

But thank you and keep up the posts! Will you be seeing GOASTT live by the way?
