Default Mudcrutch

Anyone hear the new album "Mudcrutch "..a band Tom Petty and some of the Heartbreakers formed back in 1970 pre- Heartbreakers? It also includes Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench so needless to say the musicianship is stellar .I t was apparently recorded in just 10 days and has a great organic feel to it .It's an awesome listen for anyone that is a fan of Americana music,The Byrds and The Flying Burrito Brothers..it has many standouts including the single "Scare Easy" and the sublime nearly 10 minute jam "Crystal River' and "Orphan of the Storm" is a very touching Katrina inspired song..This album does not seem to be getting that much press and it should ..It is very strong and one of the best I have heard released yet in 2008..a real surprise IMO.

I just ordered it but I've heard all the songs and like a lot of them, especially "Lover of the Bayou" and "Crystal River." Ryan (RickyPT) and I went to see them two weeks ago at the Fillmore and had a great time. It was cool to see Tom Petty playing totally new songs and ignoring all of the Heartbreakers materials. I wish Stevie could be so daring.

.Yeah "Lover of the Bayou" is wonderful too they really do it justice. I was thinking just that about La Nicks as I was listening to the album..if she would dicth all the mega production and do something totally organic and loose like the Mudcrutch album it could be incredible..Say hello to Ryan for me as well!

I haven't heard it yet, but I'm pretty excited about it. Reviews have all been good, not that bad reviews would prevent me from checking it out. Deb - that's awesome you guys got to see them live.

Wink

I didnt think it was terrible. I give it maybe a 7 out of 10. It's a lot more country/rock than I thought it was going to be.

I saw them live here in Los Angeles last week - great show! They seemed so happy to be doing something different!

It's been six months, has the reaction changed to this album? I think it's Petty's best album since "Wildflowers", and I'm a big "Last DJ" fan.

I still think it'sa great unexpected, very organic album ..I agree with what you said on the Lindsey forum about the Fleet Foxes debut trumping it as best album of the year though..now that one is pretty much perfection.

"Scare Easy" is probably one of the better tracks on the CD.
