Sadly, I empathise with Lindsey. I know first hand how it feels to be fired from a job you love because your co-workers don't like you. This happened to me as a nurse in a Sydney hospital emergency department. I was fired after eight weeks, with just four more weeks remaining on my temp contract.

But I didn't, by the same token, sue. I couldn't have anyway, as it was a temp job, but even if it had been a perm job, I wouldn't have sued. Yes I would have been in discussions with the union and had them represent me... but there are no musicians' unions, are there? It's like running your own business, in a way, being a musician/artist.

And Lindsey doesn't own Fleetwood Mac, nor does Stevie. Mick and John do. So really, Mick and John are the two people who have the most say in who gets to call themselves Fleetwood Mac. And because John doesn't like to get involved in band politics, even in the early days he has been like this... Mick gets to make the big calls.

But that is enough oxygen for me to give to what should be a dying issue.

Yes, I am as high as people who suggest she owes him because he got her in the band. That's precisely my point. No one can say one would not have made it without the other, and yet people do. The argument that her success is based oh his architecture of the music kind of loses it's strength when you look at the fact that he has been his own musical architect with far less solo success than Stevie's. I do believe her popularity is what made all the members of the band more wealthy than they would have been without her. Like it or not (and I'm not saying it's deserved or fair) it is factual that most people associate Fleetwood Mac with Stevie. I don't know how you can argue against that when the band themselves believe that, and that's the only reason they went along with firing Lindsey. If she wasn't responsible for the bulk of their wealth she would never have that kind of power over any of them. It's fine to think what happened is wrong, unethical or fcked up on her part(which I do think), but to deny what I'm saying is just a reaction to not liking that it's truthful.

Lindsey is a feckless, obsessive, grandiose perfectionist. Lindsey had the fewest career releases of anyone in the classic lineup. Lindsey had the fewest top 40 singles of the classic lineup writers. Lindsey’s solo albums never cracked the top 30.

In the 21 years between the end of the “Mirage” tour and SYW, Lindsey only did three studio albums (Go Insane, TITN, and OOTC) and two tours (about 90 shows). In that same time, Stevie did seven studio albums and ten tours (over 550 shows). For further context, in the 23 years between the end of the BTM tour and OWTS, Christine did two studio albums and one tour (47 shows), and she was in some state of retirement during those years.

Maybe if Lindsey had gotten off his ass and actually did something instead of basking in the glow of his visionary genius he wouldn’t have become the easily expendable one.

Funny how you forget that Lindsey had a produce all the Fleetwood Mac Albums while Steve he would come and go as she pleases.
