http://www.phillyburbs.com/entertain...1c8d5bcb2.html BILLY BURNETTE His name seems familiar. No, he isn’t Rocky Burnette, the guy who had a big hit with “Tired of Toein’ the Line” in 1980. But he is his Rocky’s cousin. And he isn’t Dorsey Burnette, one of the seminal rock-and-roll artists of the 1950s’ Rock & Roll Trio, who found solo fame with “(There Was A) Tall Oak Tree” in 1960. But he is Dorsey’s son. Then again, maybe you know Billy as a former member of Fleetwood Mac. You say you don’t remember that? Look up the band’s 1990 CD “Behind the Mask,” the one that doesn’t feature Lindsey Buckingham. Burnette has been kicking around the music business for years, mostly pushing his brand of rockabilly/blues music. He had a No. 68 single in 1980 with “Don’t Say No,” but chances are your radio station didn’t play it. In 2009, he suffered a heart attack at just 56 years of age, but had successful quintuple bypass surgery. Now, he’s back with the new album “Rock N Roll With It” (2011) and a tour that brings him to the Sellersville Theater at 24 W. Temple Ave. in Sellersville on Thursday. His new album features Bekka Bramlett, who joined him in Fleetwood Mac, and the tunes “My Love Will Not Change,” “Hot Rod Hillbilly,” “Armed and Dangerous” and “Beautiful Distraction.” Expect to hear most of them at this show. Show time: 8 p.m. Tickets: $25 to $39.50. Information: 215-257-5808. |

Rockabilly on stage at Mauch Chunk Opera Rockabilly singer-songwriter Billy Burnette will perform at 8:30 p.m. today at Mauch Chunk Opera House, 14 W. Broadway, Jim Thorpe. Born in Memphis, Tenn., Burnette fronted Fleetwood Mac from 1987 to 1995, when Lindsey Buckingham departed the group. He toured and recorded with not only Fleetwood Mac, but Bob Dylan and, most recently, John Fogerty. Burnette spent most of his youth in the presence of his father, Dorsey, and Uncle Johnny, of the Rock and Roll Trio. They combined the names of Billy and his cousin, Rocky, for the 1953 hit "Rockabilly Boogie." At the height of his Fleetwood Mac stint, Burnette's songs were recorded by artists such as Roy Orbison, Ray Charles, Rod Stewart, Cher, Loretta Lynn and Glen Campbell. Opening the show will be singer-songwriter Sean Della Croce, who released her debut album, "On The Line," in 2010. Her musical mentor and stepfather is guitarist Pete Huttlinger. Born in Nashville, Tenn., to parents that are prominent figures in the city's teeming music industry, Croce grew up around acts such as Vince Gill, Martina McBride, Ralph Stanley and LeAnn Rimes. Tickets are $15. For information or to purchase tickets, call 570-325-0249 or visit mcohjt.com. |
