I never knew any of this. I wonder if the songs reflect the breakups.

Agree with both of you - this book is what we're waiting for and would fill in a lot of the blanks and perhaps help "define" FM outwith Rumours for once.

I thought he and Christine had a bit of a tiff after In The Meantime? Apparently he didn't like the final mix.

She didn't return his call about his book is what I read

Yup. I'm too lazy to look up the thread, but he sounded pretty negative about Christine and especially the time they spent working on In the Meantime. There was definitely an implication about her drinking--something about getting sloshed and screaming, "I'm not too old to tour; just too rich!" I was pretty surprised he shared that...
He mentioned the huge egos of Chris, Stevie and Lindsey and siad he doesn't really talk them.
Still adored Mick and John though--I wonder if they gave him interviews? The article sounds like he couldn't get any new ones.

Wow... that's pretty shocking. I can't imagine Chris acting that way this day and age, she's always seemed so grounded. But I guess she has become quite cranky in her retirement. After all, there is the story about her abruptly ceasing the villagers access to the stream/river on her property, which had been used by the villagers for hundreds of years.

Okay, I went back and checked. I was a bit off about the drinking, but here it is in Ken's words:

I had to leave the room while her dogs ate, and her favorite quote was "I'm not too old to tour, just too rich!" Too bad...I have requested she be interviewed by me for the book, and I got no reply from her or her manager, not even a simple no thank you. I still love my memories of her and the band.

I don't think that was entirely her decision. Apparently she was part of a consortium that bought some land to stop it being developed. Then the consortium decided to fence it off which understandably caused some resentment in the village

Yeah, your drinking quote, just wasn't adding up, chronologically. I was like, WTF?

And I don't think the non-touring really has to do with money...she didn't need the money, 25 years ago(God, really....has it been THAT long......). She's just past that part of her life. Good for her(obviously I wish that weren't the case, but it is).

But god forbid that she should be like everyone else, with "not in my back yard". It's okay, for you and me, but if she does it, she's some hateful bi*ch. She was only doing what everyone else does, but because she's a star, she gets singled out. Which, of course, is bull****.

I remember Ken's comment. It was in response go a question I'd asked him about his bond with the band members. I thought he and Chris were close, since he worked on In the Meantime. But apparently, he was miffed about her eccentricities and her unresponsiveness to the book project.

In all honesty, I believe it is the latter that has upset him. He knew he was going to stand to make some big money based on that book and without the band's support, it would be a re-hash. What he probably feared has already happened: the advance was not fully forthcoming.

I remember the article. It appears Christine was AGAINST the fence idea but had voted down by the group. The whole thing about the reality TV star and her at war was just a headline to sell the paper. The article itself undermines that.

I still have a scan of that newspaper article somewhere (I'm not at home, and it's on my desktop PC). Yeah, that headline was only to sell more copies.

Here's the thread about the polytunnel debaucle.

Yes, they said Christine probably wishes she wasn't part of the consortium at all. They used her name and photo to get headlines really, well that Big Brother guy was trying to get headlines.

SORDID ICEBURG! If I ever form a formal band, that will a strong contender for a name. Great term!

I could care less about the Rumours book. I know enough already. Had the band members conceded to the interviews, does anyone here think they would provide us with anything revelatory? They would likely stay close to the script and talking points they have regurgitated for the last twenty-something years.

So much has been said, so many published stories about Rumours, another book would just perpetuate the redundancies. You are spot on (as usual!) about the untold drama that was Tango in the Night. We've gotten the generalities of what went down, but I suspect there are many entertaining unspoken words and stories about that messy saga.
