Article from The Australian about the newest promotional gimmick]

August 22, 2009

http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au...013575,00.html

FANS of US rockers Pearl Jam who find themselves with nothing better to do tomorrow -- and on every Sunday for the foreseeable future -- may like to log on to www.pearljamtour.tv to catch the latest adventures of Eddie Vedder and his chums.

What they may not have expected on the first one last weekend was to see Australian tour promoter Michael Chugg as their host, introducing film clips and giving the lowdown on the band just before its recent secret performance at London's Shepherds Bush Empire.

The new Pearl Jam TV is a Chugg initiative, designed to promote the band's Australian tour, which gets under way in November. It also gives ample plugging exposure to its new album, Backspacer, released next month.

The first episode, or webisode as Chugg would have it, sees the normally profanity-prone promoter in all-ages mode, spruiking in an unusually mild-mannered tone the exclusive live footage and undisclosed rarities that will follow in the weeks leading up to the tour. One can't help wondering if this latest ploy by one of the country's leading promoters will set off a chain reaction among his competitors. How soon before we see Michael Coppel, Michael Gudinski and Andrew McManus, for example, fronting Fleetwood Mac TV or Marilyn Manson TV?

Default Stevie is a man in this article

Clearly written by a complete idiot!!!

Rumours
Fleetwood Mac were so good in the late '60s, why did Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham have to ruin it??

Stevie Nicks' vocals are so high, he sounds like a girl.

Lindsay Buckingham should find a way to sing with his mouth tightly shut.

Mick Fleetwod looks like he should be panhandling on a street corner somewhere.

Oh, and another thing wrong with this album is that there is no 'U' in 'Rumors.'

Colbie Caillat, the bubbly Southern California singer/songwriter who broke on MySpace before taking over iTunes and AC radio with her 2007 debut, is the kind of artist best experienced less than four minutes at a time.
Listening to any track on her second album, "Breakthrough" is a perfectly pleasant experience. Caillat has a lovely honeyed voice, and a lilting acoustic guitar strum accompanies pretty melodies. The recordings sound wonderfully warm, thanks to producers like John Shanks, Rick Nowels and Caillat's father, former Fleetwood Mac engineer, Ken Caillat.

From an interview with Just Jack

http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-en...d-1778138.html

"What was getting me emotionally wasn't the rhythm or the drums, but the chord changes and the harmonies." It sounds like he has been raiding his parents' collections. "They would play The White Album and [Fleetwood Mac's] Tusk, so subconsciously they all went in there," he admits, pointing at his head, reckoning the influence took time to percolate down. "You listen to them again with ears that have listened to other stuff and hear how people you like have been influenced by them. It's a big circle."

I need to sleep because tomorrow our flight departs at 7am. Christ.

FYI. Fleetwood Mac tickets for their ACER Arena show are over $300 a pop.

The plot, sans Lwaxana, has some promise. The Enterprise is escorting aliens to a peace conference. Someone plans to assassinate the ambassadors, but we have no idea who. Or at least we are not supposed to. Anyone with two brain cells to rub together figures it is the two blowfish aliens hibernating on the journey. One of them is played by Mick Fleetwood of Fleetwood Mac fame.

Default Just another normal day with Fleetwood Mac

Your father, Ken Caillat, coproduced the seminal Fleetwood Mac albums Rumours and Tusk. Did you grow up hanging out with Stevie Nicks and John McVie?

Yeah, I got to see all of them, but at the time I didn’t know that Fleetwood Mac was such a big deal because I was so young. Now looking back, I think it’s the coolest thing ever, but at the time, they were just my parents’ friends. We would go see their concerts and go out on their boat in Malibu and meet them in Hawaii and it was just a normal thing with family friends.

Default Atherton Comes in Second on Forbes Most Expensive ZIP Codes List

Did we say we wanted to live in One Rincon Hill? No, no. What we meant was, we wanted to live in Atherton. See, Forbes released its latest list of zip codes where the wealthy hatch and call home. Some silly town in a silly state took top honors -- 07620, Alpine, New Jersey, median home price $4,139,041. But! California's Atherton, 94027, came in at number two, boasting a median home price as of $3,849,133.

Atherton, according to Business Week, is home to Eric Schmidt, chairman and CEO of Google; Charles Schwab, founder of the brokerage firm bearing his name; folliclly-challenged Meg Whitman, CEO of eBay; NFL football player Jerry Rice; and the greatest guitarist in the history of music/breaker of Stevie Nicks' magical heart, Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac.

The top ten are:

1. 07620, Alpine, N.J., $4,139,041
2. 94027, Atherton, Calif., $3,849,133
3. 10014, New York, N.Y., $3,521,514
4. 91008, Duarte, Calif., $3,444,773
5. 90210, Beverly Hills, Calif., $3,367,167
6. 92067, Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., $3,362,493
7. 93108, Santa Barbara, Calif., $3,284,652
8. 94024, Los Altos Hills, Calif., $3,277,500
9. 10065, New York, N.Y., $3,176,534
10. 07926, Brookside, N.J., $3,121,115

After last night’s game, the Knights Stadium PA system played Fleetwood Mac’s “Don’t Stop” as exit music. Either by “tomorrow” they meant next year—Charlotte’s been out of contention for a while now—or the sound board op was sending one out to the visiting team, whose tomorrows have now officially been extended at least four more days.

The Cave Singers - Welcome Joy
(Matador) UK release date: 17 August 2009

Equally, it's almost impossible not to hear influences seeping into the band's music. At times Welcome Joy sounds as if it's a long lost Fleetwood Mac album - possibly shelved somewhere between Rumours and Tusk. Quirk's voice recalls Lindsey Buckingham's frequently throughout on Welcome Joy, and second track Leap would fit easily into Rumours' tales of recriminations, and lost love. And hey, there's a neat skiffle beat that echoes that of Second Hand News too. (...)

By the way, This album is spectacular.

How to know when you are getting old: Your niece transfers to a school called Fleetwood. You ask what the nickname or motto is. You politely suggest (jokingly) that it should be called the Macs. Your niece has no idea what you are talking about.

When your niece does not know this band,
you know you are ancient. Sigh…..

Default Sounds like something David would write

After plugging them in and letting them warm up for 10 minutes, Grover made several adustments to the bias current using his DMM and a couple of little knobs on the top of each chassis (handy to have those adjustments available). We plugged in the speaker cables to the 4 ohm taps,

Put Fleetwood Mac Rumours on the turntable, and we got down to listening......

At first blush the sound was a bit warmer than my ss amps, but the voices were much more natural sounding, and full of harmonics, in relation the ss amps made the voices more distant and a bit more hollow. The bass was kinda chocolatey and fat (did not really like it).

After listening for a while, Grover asked if there were 4 ohm speakers, I said I think they are 8 ohm, so we switched to the 8 ohm taps. Well that tightened up the bass right there. Much better control and impact. The sound was really good now. One thing these tube amps do very well is the highs. Very natural sounding cymbals, much better than the Odyssey monoblocks. Also there was better imaging and depth, a larger soundstage.

Default Brandon Flowers, "Rolling Stone"

Here
Who are you currently jealous of?

"Fleetwood Mac. I've been listening to Rumours and some of the Eighties stuff. Some people are strictly Seventies Mac fans, but they really kept it going."

I agree with him. And I may add that it makes me feel extra special when artists I adore talk about loving other artists I adore. Right on, Brandon.
