DISCUSSION: Billy Burnette's songs from Behind the Mask
Well its time for this forum to get involved the FM "Battle of the Songs"! Hopefully we can bring some life around here and some good discussion.
This thread is about Billy Burnette's songs from Behind the Mask. Below is a list of songs up for discussion... 1. In the Back of My Mind 2. Do You Know (duet w/Christine) 3. When the Sun Goes Down (duet w/Rick Vito) 4. Hard Feelings 5. When It Comes To Love 5 songs and 2 duets is a good many, especially for a new member. On October 22nd, a poll will be posted for you to vote on your favorite Billy Burnette song. I suppose the duets will count as collaborations, and will be in there on battle (poll). |

Strong output from Billy on BTM. I would say that Do You Know is the weakest of his contributions, but I would put it in the upper half of all the Fleetwood Mac songs combined. When It Comes To Love is my favorite followed by Hard Feelings, In The Back Of My Mind and When The Sun Goes Down.

'In the Back of My Mind' is amazing!! I wish Billy had made more songs like it!
'Do You Know' and 'When It Comes To Love' are sweet. Christine and Billy sound great together. 'When the Sun Goes Down' is just not my type. I like to listen to 'Hard Feelings' sometimes, but other times, it seems a little boring. It's like I have to be in a certain mood to hear it.

They should have axed the album and combined from Time Winds Of Change. That would have made a good CD Maxi- Single. Much better than either album. Sometimes less is more. |

In The Back Of My Mind is mos def the BEST song on the album! My second favorite of his would be When It Comes To Love.

As far as solely a Billy Burnette composition, "In The Back Of My Mind" tops the cake. But, for a total group participation, "When The Sun Goes Down" is probably the best EVER. Rick & Billy sharing lead vocals is great, Christine & Stevie's backgrounds are impeccable, Mick & John prove they're the best rhythm section ever. Doesn't get much better than that.

Hard Feelings
i looove In the Back of My Mind, i think they opened the setlist with it on that tour, but something about the psychedelia of Hard Feelings really works best for me.

"In the Back Of My Mind" is the most fully realized song by this version of Fleetwood Mac. Yet, it's not my favourite of these. You know, I've been in love with "Do You Know" playing inside of my head constantly. Yet, I view this one as a Christine song, not one of Billy's, even though he's my favourite songwriter in the band. "When It Comes To Love" is also more of a Christine song to me, and a very sexy one at that. "Hard Feelings" clearly shows that Billy has really arrived in FM. That's the way in which I'd have loved the band to continue on a follow-up album to arrive during the timeframe of The Chain. "When the Sun Goes Down" has been my instant favourite track when I got the album in the first place. It's sad that this version of the band didn't last longer than it did.
