MAC ATTACK: FLEETWOOD MAC TOHIT THE ROAD AGAIN

New 40-Date Outing To Net Classic Act $30 Mil

November 20, 2002

In yet another astonishing story of the enduring
commercial power of classic-rock acts, Fleetwood Mac
will once again appear on stages across the country as
a result of an offer they just can’t refuse, according to
sources close to the action.

Word is that the as-yet-unconfirmed tour will be
promoted by Concerts West, which is guaranteeing the
band (which will perform without Christine McVie) some
$750k per night over 40 dates. The outing is reportedly
being planned by Lyndsay Buckingham manager Tony
Dimitriades, Stevie Nicks manager Howard Kaufman
and Mick Fleetwood manager Carl Stubner.

The tour going to Concerts West sends a $30 million
signal that Clear Channel concert-promotion arm Clear
Channel Entertainment is no longer pricing everyone out
of the market. Indeed, insiders say CCE exec Don Law is
under a mandate to control costs and is thus holding
back on the huge advances and guarantees that have
previously had other promoters crying foul. Concerts
West is said to have outbid CCE for the Fleetwood Mac
tour by $50-75k per date.

If CCE is indeed backing off, the door is now open for
promoters including Concerts West, House of Blues,
Mitch Slater’s Metropolitan and others to land big tours.
There’s also talk of two or more promoters forming a
consortium to mount multiple high-dollar tours
simultaneously.

All this takes place amid reports that Clear Channel has
been trying to sell CCE, which was put together from its
purchase of SFX and other concert assets. Clear
Channel denies these reports, but rumors persist that
the company recently enlisted Lehman Bros. to find a
buyer for the unit, but none materialized.

I hate to differ with you, but consider this: The band members are promised $750K per show. They aren't playing massive arenas, either, I'd bet.

Thus, by simple mathematics, we're looking at tickets that will be extremely expensive. People who were bitching about Sir Paul's ticket prices will have even *MORE* to grumble about with Fleetwood Mac, I'd bet.

I'd been hoping to see them live this time around, but that won't happen if I have to cough up $150 per ticket, on top of the expenses for air fare, hotel, rental car, and meals. I just don't make that kind of money.

Tom Petty is right. The music business, and particularly the concert end of it, SUCKS. Greedy bastards, all of them.

Disillusionedly yours,

smoore

I didn't mean that "they deserve to rip us off"....What I meant was that they will each be making millions from this tour. So did Britney Spears for her last tour, so did N-Sync, etc etc. If you're at the high end of the music business, as you quoted Tom Petty, then you're making A LOT....full stop: so I am glad that these guys are still "guaranteed" the same sort of intake as the Britneys of this world, who IMO are not even in the same universe talent-wise.

Now if them making 750K per night means that we have to pay $150 for the cheapest ticket (which I seriously doubt, it surely is not going to be that bad), then yes, that sucks for me financially too, I totally agree with you, but there's nothing I/we can do about that.

It says that $750,000 is the maximum, and I don't see FM playing anywhere to less than a crowd of 10,000....so even if they do make a max. of $750,000 out of a relatively small crowd of 10,000, that's $75 a ticket, and that's assuming that all tickets will be the same price (which they obviously won't be.)

My point was that if there was one group that would make millions from touring and their music, then I would want it to be them.

If the price is indeed high, I hope you can still make it to see them live.

Take care,
