Default Gift Of Screws tracklisting

Anyone have an idea of what the intended tracklisting might have been?

If not how about recommending a good order for listening to the tracks

Have no idea "what would've been"...but here's one of my running order experiments:

Bleed To Love Her
Red Rover
Gift Of Screws
Down On Rodeo
Deep Dense
Murrow
Steal Your Heart Away
The Singer Not The Song

Twist Of Fate
Try For The Sun
Hit & Run
(aka Shuffle Riff)
She Smiled Sweetly
Miranda
Someone's Gotta Change Your Mind
My Little Demon
Gotta Get Away
Say Goodbye

EDIT: oops, forgot "She Smiled Sweetly".

Arrow My running order:

Bleed To Love Her
Murrow
Down on Rodeo
Gift Of Screws
Try for the Sun
Shuffle Riff
Miranda
Twist of Fate
Steal Your Heart Away
Red Rover
Someone's Gotta Change Your Mind
The Singer Not The Song
Come
She Smiled Sweetly
Deep Dense
Gotta Get Away
Say Goodbye

I didn't put Given Thing or Blue Turns to Grey on there because I didn't have those songs when I burned my copy.

Was it ever officially confirmed that Hit & Run = Shuffle Riff? It makes sense, but I dunno if it was ever officially stated... anyway, looking at what he's got left for a potential GoS, maybe for summer '05, I think its quite likely that we'll see the rest of the songs in a solo Lindsey album format. I just can't imagine him doing another FM album.

Someone's Got to Change Your Mind
Given Thing
Got To Get Away
Twist of Fate
I'm Waiting
Try For The Sun
Shuffle Riff
Wear You Down
Hit & Run (IF this and Shuffle Riff are NOT the same song, which I'm hoping!)
Blue Turns to Grey
Down on Rodeo
She Smiled Sweetly
My Little Demon
Gift of Screws
The Singer, Not the Song

Those are a lot of songs! 15, that's pretty much a whole album, especially when almost all of them are all ready just about finished. Gotta Get Away, Try For the Sun, Wear You Down, Blue Turns to Greay and My Little Demon are the only ones that I think still neededmuch tweaking. Maybe Lindsey will see this... Besides, I'm sure that he's got plenty of juicy new ideas of songs to write:
1. being a daddy
2. being around Stevie so often
3. his views on the world today

Plus he could maybe finish up an old song from the Rumours/Tusk era that never got released and then do a quick acoustic instrumental or two, and BAM! We have Gift of Screws, ready for June 2005. Maybe even fall 2004.

Will it ever really happen though?

I pray to God that it will!!!!

The tracklist submitted to label honchos in 2001:

1 Someone's Gotta Change Your Mind
2 Miranda
3 Steal Your Heart Away
4 Red Rover
5 She Smiled Sweetly
6 Come
7 Down on Rodeo
8 Gotta Get Away
9 Try for the Sun
10 Shuffle Riff
11 Murrow
12 Gift of Screws
13 Bleed to Love Her
14 Twist of Fate
15 Go Insane
16 Say Goodbye
17 The Singer Not the Song

At the time, Buckingham & Rob Cavallo intended for this to be the order. But I think that the album went through many permutations over the years in terms of both tracklist & song inclusion.

Not only has it never been officially confirmed, but the very existence of those two songs has never been officially acknowledged -- to the public, at least.

Personally, I just don't hear the similarity between the two. And at the time that "Shuffle Riff" was submitted to label execs, "Hit & Run" was already in circulation as some sort of demo or rough. It seems odd to rename a song "Shuffle Riff" from "Hit & Run" -- I can imagine it happening the other way, though. But that doesn't jibe with the time frame.

Is it possible that people are thinking of something called "Steve's Riff"?

People have associated the two because they both sound violent - bones are broken in "Shuffle Riff," and bones are presumably broken when one is hit and run, lol. But that was more of a desperate grab than anything concrete such as timeline considerations, etc. No one has associated it with "Steve's Riff" because that already had a subtitle, "Wear You Down" (which could have been contrived by a fan, admittedly. The copy I have is only labelled 'Steve's Riff' and for a long time I thought he said "WORK you down" as in work you over sexually. Still like that idea better lol). Of course lyrically no one can really discern what he's saying in that, and although I don't hear "hit and run" in there, that's absolutely meaningless when it comes to titles. Where is "out on the road" in "That's Enough for Me"? So I guess it very well could be "Steve's Riff" or - something we haven't heard! Imagine that! lol

P.S. It was quite difficult pretending I didn't know the words to Down on Rodeo at Soundstage.

I was looking up the Time album based on another thread and I saw this thread discussing the original tracklist for GOS. Interesting.

1 Someone's Gotta Change Your Mind
2 Miranda
3 Steal Your Heart Away
4 Red Rover
5 She Smiled Sweetly
6 Come
7 Down on Rodeo
8 Gotta Get Away
9 Try for the Sun
10 Shuffle Riff
11 Murrow
12 Gift of Screws
13 Bleed to Love Her
14 Twist of Fate
15 Go Insane
16 Say Goodbye
17 The Singer Not the Song

The only thing I don't like is Say Goodbye and Singer Not the Song at the end. I might put Say Goodbye last instead. To me, it is a snoozer and needs to close.

I still find it odd that Go Insane (live) from The Dance was included, I now wonder if the solo version of Peacekeeper was meant to be included and maybe got pulled when the album leaked, wouldn't surprise me that the leak was intentional, but that Peacekeeper was kept back as it was intended as the lead single for the new Fleetwood Mac album that resulted in Say You Will

Still would like to know what was 'Hit and Run' and did it leak?

Interesting question. I remember an anonymous "insider" said that Stevie had submitted a song called Hit and Run to FM last year. They probably got the title from the old GOS news.

So from a 'official release' perspective, my playlist is as follows....

1. Someone's Gotta Change Your Mind
2. Miranda
3. Steal Your Heart Away
4. Red Rover
5. Come
6. Down On Rodeo
7. Try For The Sun
8. Wait For You (Shuffle Riff)
9. Murrow Turning Over In His Grave
10. Gift Of Screws
11. Bleed To Love Her
12. The Right Place To Fade (Twist Of Fate)
13. Peacekeeper
14. Say Goodbye
15. She Smiled Sweetly

What a cracking album that would have been in it's percieved original form. How differenet the last fourteen years would have been if Lindsey had been 'allowed' to release his latest collection of songs within his 'vision' at the time.

But..... still where does Hit and Run fit?

YES!!!!!! unbelievable album!

instead we have uneven SYW and all people self-righteously bsing about how non-unified it is....... well. too bad.

and in my view, release GOS is not really even either.

this group of songs belonged together. they were magnificent, different, all over the place yet fitting together.

Whilst we continue the search for Hit and Run, another song title remains a mystery.....

Is It Right -
This track was nearly leaked on eBay back in Apr 2005 (see below)

Lindsey Demos / Mixes leak on eBay
Some new Lindsey Buckingham songs were leaked onto the auction site eBay on the 27th April 2005. The auction has been ended early by the seller before the auction completed, the text given regarding the CD is posted below:

EAST END MANAGEMENT CO.

LINDSEY BUCKINGHAM

NEW MIXES

1 IS IT RIGHT
2 I AM WAITING
3 PEACEKEEPER (MY MIX)
4 WHAT'S THE WORLD COMING TO (UNEDITED)

THESE ARE NOT NECESSARILY FINAL CHOICES

(ALL ONE TRACK, ID'S NOT MADE)

I wonder what happended to this one, or did it get released with an updated title?

It isn't. It suffers from some of the same problems that SYW has. Sonically you can hear the difference in arrangement and production from the original SYW songs and the later ones.
