Long Ago
I love this line as the opening words of the album and how this song kicks off the album. This is a song i love to blast on great speakers...

but in all seriousness, i love this song as well. it's not my favourite on ITM (that distinction belongs to 'forgiveness'), but it places pretty highly!! and i agree it was a terrific way for her to open the album, i remember it grabbing me straight away from the start. |

He did. Friend is a great song. And her voice sounds terrific on it. Had it been released as a single in 1984, at the time of her previous solo album, it would have been a smash. In fact, ITM would have probably gotten amazing reviews all the way around. As it is, it's 2006 and I'm blissfully happy to have thhese twelve songs which I listen to again and again. Although I'm hoping for another recording (covers, originals, unplugged, plugged, anything...) ITM would be a fine swan song for her career. |

I thought I'd read on the credtis that he did. Maybe I was just deducing this because he'd written lyrics for her before. You are right in noting that the words sound like lyrics Chris could write. I was so certain I''d read he wrote them. Now I'm feeling moronic. |

Don't feel moronic. I just checked the liner notes in the booklet & it doesn't say who wrote what. Chris has the first credit though. I'm not even sure that Robbie wrote lyrics with her before. They co-wrote "Hold Me", but I don't know who wrote what on that song either.

how does everyone feel about the acoustic version of 'friend' ? personally, i adore it, maybe even slightly more than the album version. there's something so endearing and sadly sweet about it.
