I think the vocals are pretty good and the first half is not that great. But it does kick in halfway through. Too long and needed a re-write and edit.

Now the video with the song. I admit I was very moved. It spoke to me. I think this is the best way to listen to the song. With the video.

I like the production, and I think in 2020, a song that is a prayer for the world will resonate with folks.

I think it needs some editing, as there are some lyrics that really pull me out of the moment. I could see this being described as a mystical take on "Abraham, Martin, and John"

I don't think she sounds great at all. This really reminds me A LOT of large chunks of the Trouble In Shangri La album in which she sounds very gravely and nasal. Yet she sounded ten years younger on IYD.

Needing an editor is an understatment.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD....

Can someone please tell Stevie that there's no shame in editing your work? It isn't an insult to your creativity or talent. It just shows you're not a narcissistic lunatic who thinks every thought they've ever had is some kind of prophetic message that must remain exactly as originally transcribed. Her refusal to edit her own lyrics or have someone help her edit them is maddening, exhausting, and embarrassing.

I'm no Grammy winning producer or songwriter, yet in 20 minutes I was able to rework her lyrics into something that at least has a modicum of structure, follows a relatively coherent train of thought, and doesn't repeat the same word 6 times in a single phrase. I can only imagine that someone with more experience and expertise would be able to do the same and do it better.

Intro:
Please God, show 'em the way
Please God, on this day
Spirits all give ‘em the strength
Peace can come if you really want it

Verse 1:
I had a fragile dream in a gray house in the Hamptons

It must have been 1963
I'd been there before, singing songs in nameless mansions

Everything was timeless, even me

Alone in the room, blood red lipstick in my hand

Only a mirror there to see
I put on the final touches a place like this commands

I was ready for the Kennedys

Please God, show 'em the way
Please God, on this day
Spirits all give ‘em the strength
Peace can come if you really want it

Verse 2:
The door opened, I was ushered down the hall
By one Martin Luther King

All in shadow, all before me, overwhelmed by destiny,

He said, “There’s the piano, here’s a drink,”

John was standing in the corner, smiling as I sang
I didn’t know them, they didn’t know me
They were drinking champagne, planning how things should change
Whatever it takes to be free

Chorus:
I sang

Please God, show 'em the way
Please God, on this day
Spirits all give ‘em the strength
Peace can come if you really want it

Bridge:

Gone in a single shot

Nothing is as it seems
It seems the world forgot

Gone, but they left the dream

One shot is all you need
So take it, the time has come

The dream is not over

The dream has just begun

Verse 3:

Back where it all began, my eyes opened wide

Sunlight slipped through the door

As I lie in bed, a shadow came to my side,

And I asked, “What is this all for?”

And the shadow replied

Don’t forget, don’t forget what we were fighting for

Chorus / Outro:

Please God, show 'em the way
Please God, on this day
Spirits all give ‘em the strength
Peace can come if you really want it

Please God, show 'em the way
Please God, on this day
Light the fire, start it over
Tell the world about the dream
Start it up and make it real

Please God, show 'em the way
(I believe it)
Please God, on this day
(Don't forget it)
Spirits all give ‘em the strength
(Don't forget what
We were fighting for)
Think we're just in time to say
Peace can come if you fight for it

Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk. It's a shame because the production on the track is great and the message of the song seems genuine. If only it weren't a 6.5 minute rambling, clunky mess...

You did a great job. I too played the song and tried to edit the lyrics and change them so it flowed better. I changed "fragile" dream to strange dream. And I definately took out the part about the floating dress. LOL

Sometimes the lyrics are too detailed, focusing on the mundane. Like I half expect her to sing about when the Persian rug was last vacuumed.

But I think it works as background music for the montage.

Imagine how her cleaning lady must feel. Stevie's allergic to dust.

Stevie Nicks: Coronavirus is stealing my last youthful years

Stevie Nicks says the coronavirus pandemic is "stealing" her "last youthful years".

The Fleetwood Mac singer - who turned 72 this year - is frustrated by the current health crisis as she doesn't just have "10 years" to just wait around for the virus to go away.

She said: "This pandemic is more than just a pandemic for me. This is stealing what I consider to be my last youthful years. I dont have just 10 years to hang around and wait for this thing to go away. I have places to go, people to sing for, another album to make. With every day that goes by, its like taking this time away from me. That I think is the hardest thing for me."

And Stevie worries the virus might not even be gone by the end of 2021.

She added: "I have a lot of friends that are 60 and theyre going, Oh Im so old, Im 60. Im like, You know what, the violins of the world are playing for you. Youre going to really appreciate 60 when you turn 72.' I dont feel like the whole world is really getting behind getting this to go away. I feel like people are just thinking it really is just magically going away. All it takes is a few people that dont wear a mask to spread. Just let one person catch it from you and there it goes - its like the never-ending story. That worries me because Im going, Will it really be gone by the end of 2021? Will it be safe next year for us to walk into Madison Square Garden? I dont know that it will."

I saw that Variety article and was like Whhhaaatttt???? "Youthful years"? Boy she's a mess.

I had not heard that she was sick the night of the RRHOF or that she'd gone into ICU for a week afterwards........

To her, this is still nonpartisan talk, though it may not be taken as such by all. “The whole thing has become so political. It’s not political, everybody! It’s not. It’s a virus. It doesn’t care what side you’re on. It’s going to kill you. And I’ve said that if I get it it’ll kill me. I have compromised lungs. I was really sick last year. The night of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame [which she was inducted into in 2019 as a solo artist after previously being in as a member of Fleetwood Mac], I knew before I went on stage that something was off, so I had to really like pull it together. The next day I got really sick, and I ended up going into the hospital in Philadelphia for a week in ICU with double pneumonia and and asthma. And talk about your oxygen levels going down — my oxygen levels were hardly existing. If I was to go on a ventilator… My mom was on a ventilator for a month, and she was hoarse for the rest of her life. All the other side effects that come along with this virus… You may get over it and just be like, ‘Great, I’m good. It’s gone.’ It’s not gone. It comes back in little ways to attack you forever.
“So you don’t want to get it. It’s like I’ve built a thin shield of magical plastic around me, you know? Because I don’t want my career to be over. I don’t want to not pull on those leather boots again.”

You know what can really compromise your lungs? Smoking cigarettes for years. Just saying. Is it asthma, or COPD?

Last of her youthful years.??
I think she means the last few years when she can still do stuff, before she gets really old. Too old soon to be able to perform.
Say up to late 70s before bits start to drop off, or seize up..

I quite like song lyrics about the mundane...its a real talent to be able to write songs about everyday stuff we all do. And yet make it moving.
Ray Davies from the Kinks springs to mind.
Neil Hannon from the Divine comedy another
........Unfortunately, Stevie does not have it......

I love the song. At this point, I’m grateful she still makes music; and, I am not shocked whatsoever that some of you miserable dullards would be on here moaning and groaning with your warped expectations and critiques. You are consistent, if nothing else.

The video, however, is ****. There’s a comment on YouTube by someone which made me laugh loudly: “I love the cinematography!” IT’S A POWERPOINT.

The video is lazy and she had Cameron Crowe come in to direct her just walking down a hall?

The song is really growing on me. The piano version is a bit dull, but the rock version I am enjoying more as I listen. I kept singing the chorus to myself all day yesterday. If only it had been edited, especially the first and second verse it really could have been a great song. But I don't think Stevie cares if it's a hit or not. I am surprised it's done as well as it has.
