bright eyes
I really dug the "lifted"-album but now these guys put out two masterpieces at one time
"I'm wide awake, its morning" , a semi-acoustic record full of great gems with Emmylou on backingvocals on 4 or 5 songs, and an electronic/acoustic with out of this world rythmtracks an equal great gems called "digital ash in a digital urn". When you like Cracker/Camper/Eels, buy the second one (Lindsey: buy it!), if you like it more country-ish, buy the first one. but give them both a listen, I'm curious about what you guys think of it. gerald

In fact, the other engineer(I was the monitor engineer) at Bright Eyes' show STILL (this was about a year ago) makes fun of the fact that he thought Conor was coming on to me all day. "He was hittin' on you, dude!" (He's a BIG homophobe).

I hate Bright Eyes. One of my roommates in college was in love with Conor. I still remember waking up hearing her in the midst of a Conor Oberst inspired sex dream.
I just can't handle whiny emo. And I'm so tired of Conor being called the Bob Dylan of my generation. |

I really just hate emo kids, Sharon- it's tainted my ability to enjoy the music. Bright Eyes' and Dashboard's popularity is just gross to me- annoying emo kids feeling sad while all wearing cool pants and sporting the same emocore haircut. Emo kids are becoming the new mall punks.
My hatred of Bright Eyes involves Conor's annoying fans more than the music itself- he IS talented. But if I'm going to listen to emo whine, I'd prefer Pedro the Lion or sumthin'. |

I can understand why someone hates Bright Eyes or any other performer with a tormented voice. It hits you or you get itchy everywhere. I love early Radiohead, I like Coldplay, I've always loved Tom Petty, jeff tweedy, Kevn Kinney, Steve Harley, David Lowery and that sort of singers, and never could relate to Jeff Buckley. It's just a matter of someone touches you or not.
And I'm glad that that british nannie stopped just in time. She did a beautiful job with Conner.

I'm really old, I've never even heard of this band or guy Conor Oberst. When I first saw this thread I though it was about the song "Bright Eyes" song that Mike Batt wrote and Art Garfunkel performed. Also on Justin Haywards Classic Blue cd. I thought it was very nice!
