Salvo's 4-CD Peter Green Anthology

Hi,

is there anybody who bought Salvo's new 4-CD Peter Green "Anthology"-box (http://www.unionsquaremusic.co.uk/ti...37&LABEL_ID=17) yet and is so kind to tell the neglected and unattended Peter-Green-Folks in the German speaking world a little bit about the booklet and the news and pictures it contains?

Amazon.co.uk delivered some items, but www.amazon.de and other (internet-) record stores in Austria and Germany doesn't have the 4-CD Peter Green "Anthology" in stock. They're telling us the 4-CD Peter Green "Anthology" will be in store by Nov 21st 2008.

For many, Peter Green is the finest blues guitarist this country ever produced. True, Clapton had the more dazzling technique, and there were several who could probably leave him standing in terms of mere notes-per-second; but such pointless pissing contests completely miss the point, which is that the blues is a matter of feeling.

And either none felt quite as deeply as Greeny, or none could express their feelings with quite his subtlety. His graceful passion is in plentiful supply on this four-disc career retrospective, which tracks Green's progress from sideman in future Camel leader Peter Bardens' Looners, through the brief stint with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers that first established his reputation, to his apotheosis with Fleetwood Mac and the comeback with his own Splinter Group that followed his lengthy period in reclusion.

Punctuated by collaborations with notables such as Buddy Guy, Hubert Sumlin, Otis Rush and Dr John, it's an object lesson in how to simultaneously expand a roots form, both creatively and commercially, without sacrificing the authentic emotional power at its heart.

Great sound indeed on the box set.
The "Then play on" tracks have more punch compared to the dreary Warner cd.
Nice booklet, also, thanks in part to Don and his archive material.
But they should have proof read the text one more time.
Apparently "White Sky" is a Fleetwood Mac track now...sure didn't know that!
I'll do it for free next time, seriously. When Salvo issues the next box set packed full of rarites, including the "End of the game" sessions. One can always dream!

Hi,

I don't want to sound like a complete moron, but how do you get the CDs out without scratching the hell out of them? I've never seen this arramgement before. Because all of us already have all of this music, I wasn't going to take mine out of the box, but after reading here that the sound quality is very good, I decided to pop them out for a listen. I always thought I had reasonable mechanical aptitude, but I can't seem to find the trick for removing them. I didn't want to force anything. Am I missing something obvious?

Never mind... I figured it out. There are tiny little plastic tabs on the L. & R. of each CD that need to be tweaked. My eyesight isn't too good :-)

I don't even wear glasses, and had difficulties anyway .
It looks great, but it's easy to damage the discs if you're not real careful.

Hi to Dino & all,

I am going to burn copies and keep them in jewel cases, so that I don't eventually damage the originals. I have done this in the past (for example) with the UK Issue of the "Complete Blue Horizon Sessions" Set. Those ones came in miniature card sleeves that were lovely, but allowed for potential damage to CDs & Sleeves with repeated use. Just a thought! I don't think CDs are manufactured with the same quality as when they were first invented.
