Thumbs up Spare Me A Little live 1970

This is the bluesiest version I have ever heard this song.

Dont you wish you could go back in time and go to this live.

I never knew that song was performed before the album.

That was a true surprise to me as well - thanks for pointing out!

But as much as I love the very early Mac phase including the "Kiln House" line-up - this bluesy version of the song doesn't really do it for me. Actually they were well-advised to work it over a couple of years later - to much better effect.

Agree, this version is sloppy. Not a good recording, to be somewhat fair.

It has a Grateful Dead feel to it.

I think you are judging it by the album version and later versions performed in concert. Chris was new to the band and this was a great song she brought. She had no Mac material to perform and obviously was working on this song. It sounds sloppy because it sounds improvised and still in its organic stage. But its so bluesy that it almost makes it part of the appeal. Almost like it was only rehearsed a few times. I love it. In some ways you could say its a live demo

I quite like it - great to hear how Christine moulded the song from a bluesy vamp to the country feel of it on Bare Trees. John and Jeremy sound great on it too.

Here’s another song from one of those shows I wish they would have revisited.
