Default Favourite creepy songs from the early days

During these last months I've been listening quite often to the albums from the pre Buckingham-Nicks era.

Obviously I could only make a Fleetwood Mac playlist for Halloween and, since many of the songs that I actually find ominous aren't the most obvious choices, I was curious about hearing which songs other people find most unnerving.

So I've thought to make a thread to list our favourite eerie songs from the early era and, if you want, explain why and /or highlight the lyrics that you find most chilling.

My picks are:

6. You're so Evil

Most unsettling lyric:

I'm gonna get my .44
Get my .44
'n shoot, if it holds in you
Yes I'll put you six feet under
[…]
And woman I shed no tears

5. Dust

Most unsettling lyric:

When your swift hair is quiet in death
And through the lips corruption
Thrust to still the labor of my breath

4. The Ghost

Most unsettling lyric:

Blue hills, are lookin' good to me
I go there, when I'm fast asleep
Ghost town, and the desert wind
Strange sounds, at the worlds end

3. Hypnotized

Most unsettling lyric:

Because there's no explaining what your imagination
Can make you see and feel

2. Bermuda Triangle

Most unsettling lyric:

You see strange shapes in moonlight
And shadows in the night
They said that wingtip seemed to brush their faces
And strangers stole their sight

1. The Green Manalishi

Most unsettling lyric:

Don't you come creepin' around
Makin' me do things I don't wanna do
[…]
Come sneakin' around tryin' to drive me mad
Bustin' in on my dreams
Makin' me see things I don't wanna see

The talking parts of Bermuda Triangle in the live show used to really spook me as a early teen. Bob was just as mystical as Stevie IMHO. I had to laugh reading Bob's online interviews from the mid 90s where he stated Christine and Mick hated his talking during his songs. It was pretty cool if you ask me.

Blood on the Floor
‘It's sad but true
Got a date with the hangman I have to leave you
I shot my darlin' three times or more
The reason I'm goin' is blood on the floor’

Black Magic Woman
‘Yes, I got a black magic woman, got me so blind I can't see
But she's a black magic woman and she's tryin' to make a devil out of me’

Sandy Mary
‘Sandy Mary, Sandy Mary - now, baby, you're the one for me
You got just what it takes to make a flesh eater out of me’

Jumping at Shadows
‘God have mercy I think I'm going insane
The Devil's been gettin' at me
He's got me down again’

Revelation
‘He controlled the brimstone, and eternal fire
Surrounds himself with downers, in the king of cold
You know that he had all the princes kissing his diamond ring
And I heard that he walled up, the door to summer
And cut the heart out of mister spring’

Glad you upped!

I’d add a few other Bob Welch songs for their brooding, borderline creepy sound—the long instrumental vamp in “Night Watch”; the menacing verse portions of “Future Games”; the eerie strings, guitar and vocals on “ Keep on Going”; and perhaps most of all, “Coming Home.” Bob knew how to create a mood.

Some of Green’s despair songs on THEN PLAY ON seem brooding and dark, too.
