Default If you could update The Chain box set, your tracklisting would be?

Since the 45'th was last year, if you could re-update The Chain box set, what tracklisting would you use or do? Just interested in the idea as I was fiddling around with my iTunes playlists and wanted an random collection of Mac material to play in my store and came up with this list. I've tinkered a bit with the order and considering the new songs from the EP were recorded last year, I've added two of them to the list. Anyways, here's my list;

01 The Chain
02 Dreams
03 Sad Angel
04 You Make Loving Fun
05 Say You Will
06 Isn't It Midnight
07 Big Love
08 Everywhere
09 Paper Doll
10 Love Shines
11 Sara
12 That's All For Everyone
13 Over My Head
14 Little Lies
15 Eyes Of The World
16 Thrown Down
17 In The Back Of My Mind
18 Silver Springs

01 Save Me
02 I Wonder Why
03 Fireflies
04 What Makes You Think You're The One
05 Nights In Estoril
06 Gypsy
07 Think About Me
08 Second Hand News
09 Love In Store
10 Without You
11 Peacekeeper
12 Seven Wonders
13 World Turning
14 I'm So Afraid
15 Love Is Dangerous
16 As Long As You Follow
17 Not That Funny
18 Gold Dust Woman

01 Say You Love Me
02 Angel
03 Don't Stop
04 Rhiannon
05 Steal Your Heart Away
06 Storms
07 Go Your Own Way
08 Sisters Of The Moon
09 Monday Morning
10 Landslide
11 Tusk
12 Hold Me
13 Straight Back
14 Over & Over
15 Save Me A Place
16 Beautiful Child
17 Never Going Back Again
18 Songbird

01 I Believe My Time Ain't Long
02 Need Your Love So Bad
03 Rattlesnake Shake
04 Oh Well, Pt. 1
05 Stop Messin' Round
06 The Green Manalishi
07 Albatross
08 Man Of The World
09 Black Magic Woman
10 Watch Out
11 Station Man
12 Did You Ever Love Me
13 Sentimental Lady
14 Lay It All Down
15 Hypnotized
16 Come A Little Bit Closer
17 Heroes Are Hard To Find
18 Why

Wow, what a loaded Question. IMO The Chain needs another "link", not an updated version.

If I were Mick's manager I would suggest a completely new box set. The format would be a "Best Of" CD of each individual and then maybe a mix CD of the colaborations (Don't Stop, Hold Me, Did You Ever Love Me, Station Man, Chain, WT, etc). Each CD could be sold seperatly or within the box.

Great topic, tho. I look forward to reading reponses.

I would like a four-disc box set with about 80 versions of Go Your Own Way.

Imagine paying $1000 to hear "Don't Dream It's Over" instead of "Go Your Own Way"

Fleetwood Mac helped me through a time of heartbreak. 12 years later, they broke my heart.

I've often wondered why they haven't released compilation albums featuring the individual songwriters in this way. Their work is often so different, and they divide fandom so much, it just seems like a really logical way to repackage the songs. Glad it's not just me that's had that idea.

That said, I was a Stevie fan before a FM fan, and if I'd been able to purchase a "Stevie Nicks songs" FM compilation, I may have stopped exploring the Mac catalogue and missed out on tons of great music.

I'm not sure a new boxed set is warranted. What I want is a Best-of album covering the Bob Welch era. People miss out on it, and it is sort of up-and-down in terms of quality which makes people inclined to write it off more than they should. Such an album could really be helpful in getting more people to dip their toe into that era.

I agree. Stevie and Lindsey were the gateway drug for me to want to try out older FM material.

18. Landslide [live, 2013 tour]

This is about the closest to what I would come up with (hmmmm...with the inclusion of "Silver Springs", you have the ENTIRE original pre-release track line-up of the Rumours album. Really? Do we NEED that album AGAIN? I'd pare down a couple of songs from that one); except, in place of the 8 live tracks, I'd have:

"Purple Dancer" (original 45 mix; which hasn't been released on CD)
"World In Harmony" (the original 45 mix, which hasn't seen itself on CD either)
"Trinity" (the Danny Kirwan Bare Trees outtake)
"Bermuda Triangle" (a live version from '74)
"Cool Water" (the "Gypsy" single B-side)
the Tango... singles' B-sides ("Book of Miracles", "You & I, Part 1", "Down Endless Street")

"Oh Diane"?? No, I wouldn't inflict that on Fleetwood Mac fans again, either; would insert the Mirage outtake "Goodbye Angel" instead.

Would put a 1975-76 era live "Rhiannon" in place of the studio track

Would include "Paper Doll" & "Love Shines".

Well, I guess this one really ISN'T as close to what I'd compile as I originally thought.

No more "up & down" than the Rumours-era material. Just because the albums SOLD a ton and the prior lineups albums didn't, doesn't mean the non-hit material was over all any better than Fleetwood Mac had done earlier. For me, there's less "filler" on pre-Rumours era albums than on FMac albums between '75-87.

There's less filler on the 9 pre-rumors era albums than the 5 Rumours era albums? Either the one era has almost no filler or the other one is full of it then.

*shrugs* I didn't even mention sales, nor would I have, but ok. To me, the first three Rumours-era albums are perfect no-filler albums, (although personally I don't like all the songs on any of them) and I can't say the same for most of the Bob Welch-era albums (I have a soft spot for Bare Trees especially, but, that final track?). Mirage and Tango surely do have their patchy moments, and if the Rumours-lineup was judged mostly on those, they'd probably get written off by a lot of people too, and I'd say as much.

To my ears...yes.

Meh...

We need a new record. There's really no justification for a new comp at this point. Just reissue "Mirage" and "Tango..." with bonus tracks (i.e. b-sides) and leave it at that. I'd be WAAAYYYY more excited with a Bob Welch-era "Vaudeville Years" than another comp. We need that!

Personally? I'd like a whole new box set... but more importantly.... I'd like the songs labelled right - alternate mix, outtake, whatever... I still can't believe the botched job on "The Chain" ?????

I like how the first track on Disc 4 is labeled "I Believe My Time Ain't Long", which was the first single. Except, they put "Dust My Broom" from "Mr. Wonderful" on there. Same lyrics, but very different arrangements.
