The songs, minus "Monday Morning," on which Neil is replacing Lindsey as lead singer.

Wow yes, I Wasn't even thinking that. I found it funny that so many people have said/thought Stevie is the "face of FM" yet not one of her songs is the first one that played every time I listened to FM radio this week.

Stevie is the face. doesn't mean she wrote majority of their most well known hits, or even that hits are evenly split between 3 songwriters. many people think GYOW is a song Nicks wrote, for example, precisely because she is the face.

the other day, a Finn fan told me on twitter that he was listening to Tango in the Night, and before reading the credits didn't even realize LB is on that album.

same as you, before cben said it, i didn't even realize the common thread of the songs on that list, other than they are Lindsey and Chris songs.

look also at the short Musicares set FM did.

The album-oriented rock stations (before people were calling them classic rock radio) in Los Angeles or Southern CA played these Mac songs the most. Some are chart hits but some aren't. This is KMET and KLOS mid-Seventies to mid-Eighties.

Stevie
  • Rhiannon
  • Dreams
  • Gold Dust Woman
  • Sara
  • Gypsy

(Those are by far her most-played songs.

Lindsey and Chris airplay
  • Go Your Own Way
  • The Chain
  • You Make Loving Fun
  • Tusk
  • Say You Love Me
  • Hold Me
  • Second Hand News
  • Don't Stop
  • Over My Head
  • World Turning
  • Monday Morning

very balanced station re the 3 singer / songwriters. i was surprised to see all they play was before Tango, but then noticed "through mid-80s" part - and Tango is of course where Christine really went to stratosphere re hits.

the only one that surprises me on this list is World Turning. don't think i've ever heard that one on the terrestrial radio.

another one not on this list that classic radio stations in my area seem to play a lot is I Don't Wanna Know.

Didn't hear Hypnotized as much as general playlists on AOR radio in my city. But it was used a lot in marketing interviews and profiles on the air (the ones we taped back in the day and traded), especially since those tended to summarize pre-1975 history. It was thanks to those dumb hourlong profiles that many of us first heard Fleetwood Mac 1967 to 1974 (those albums were no longer selling in the US once the white album took off).

Yes, before the Mac was a catalog band, they were a white album and Rumours band, as you can probably guess. The Mighty Met (KMET) DJs (Jim Ladd, Mike Harrison, Mary Turner, Bob Coburn [who reported live from the 1982 US Festival], Paraquat Kelley, and so on) played the band's monster hits and album cuts. By the time Tango rolled out, that particular era on AOR radio was essentially over. The Eighties had its own AOR heroes, and the older guys still lucky enough to be on the air through the corporate buyouts and format changes stuck to playing Gold Dust Woman and Go Your Own Way, not Everywhere and Seven Wonders.

By the time "Tango" came out, KMET changed into a Spanish station and KLOS 95.5 was the main AOR station in L.A.
I remember they played "Big Love," and "Seven Wonders," heavily when they were new, and "Isn't it Midnight," got quite a bit of airplay too, despite that song not being a single. For some reason, "Everywhere," and "Little Lies," got heavier play on the pop stations, but KLOS played them. But the first 3 songs I mentioned were in heavy rotation on KLOS.
Sigh. That was when AOR stations still played new and old music. Before Alternative Rock was split into it's own format.
I loved the days when you would hear all formats of Rock on one station.
It wasn't uncommon to hear Fleetwood Mac, Guns and Roses etc all on one station.

Even if her songs haven't come up on the radio for whatever reason, they're still undoubtably some of the most popular and synonymous with FM. Aside from GYOW and The Chain, I'd say Dreams and Rhiannon are the Fleetwood Mac songs in the eyes of the general public.
