Default Joe Sia, Rock and Roll Photographer (1945 - 2003)

Joe Sia passed away last week. He was an incredible Rock and Roll photographer whose subjects read like a Who's Who book of music. His photos were featured and sold for several years on the Penguin and he and I used to talk all of the time. I actually had spent a tremendous amount of time growing his website, www.joesia.com and this only features a fraction of a percent of the photos in Joe's collection. He was truly a phenomenal talent and an extremely interesting man. I'm going to miss him.

Joe attended Mt. St. Michael’s High School, Bronx, N.Y., and graduated from Sacred Heart University, Fairfield, in 1970. Joe was a world renowned photographer. His first published photograph was of Joe Cocker on the cover of Rolling Stone in 1969. Marty,

I'm sorry for the loss of your friend.

He was so talented...and so young to be leaving this world so soon. His memory will live on through his many photos, which have brought joy to all of us.

I remember when you posted his pics on the Penguin for the first time. I bought every single one because they were SO wonderful

I think I may have cooresponded with him regarding the pics, just telling him thank you. They were and are amazing.

This is really sad news

He was a wonderfully talented man, and his photography brought out the beauty, and electricity, of each and every one of his subjects.

He'll be deeply missed.

Wow -- I had no idea he passed away. His work is legendary and his photos unique. He truly captured the essence of the 70's & Stevie with his Tusk photos (among many).

Im sorry for your loss Marty, that website is amazing work btw.

Marty,
It is so sad to hear about the loss of one of rock's great photographers. I admired his work for many years. Back in 1984 I bought a book on Fleetwood Mac that featured some of his great photography. The one I always love the most is the "Angel" shot of Lindsey and Stevie up close at microphone.
He will be missed! Thanks Joe for the great images you left behind for us to enjoy!
