I'm not a shipper and really don't bother to interpret his lyrics far enough to know/care who they are about in the long run. I think Stevie's songs, in general , are a lot more interesting to interpret because of the many variety of metaphors she uses, whereas Lindsey kind of says similar things. Not to say they aren't beautiful, or that his songs are in any way inferior (bitch please, we all know how I feel about the man), but I just don't think he has the same lyrical prowess as the LADY and therefore, I sometimes could care less.

Does that make me a bad fan?

One thing: I like Kristen. Even if she may come off as a bitchandthensome at times she has done nothing to me personally, and for some reason he's been so eff'n prolific since he hooked up with her that she must have done something right. Plus, the kids are gorgeous and I like her camera.

However, I absolutely can't stand how weird Lindsey is in interviews when it comes to discussing his wife + kids. More often than not he will use the exact same phrase verbatim and it's kind of annoying. But then he does that quite a lot and I wonder if he intentionally means to sound so pretentiously cerebral or if he actually seriously talks like that. I love him. Think he's a genius. But in interview settings I can't take him.

Sorry, totally random. Shippers, please, continue...

Jeez Nico, I had to look twice and make sure I didn't write that post. Ditto and then some from this gal.

...I'd only add that I absolutely love when Linds does throw some great lines in songs like "everyone's peace lives side by side with their war." I don't expect them and cherish them even more.

I've wondered why? I mean, is the repetativeness of his interviews dictated by his management, or does he use certain phrases on purpose to keep the rumor mill going, since that's FM's bread and butter?

I didn't love IWtB exactly. I wanted a little something different. Yeah, it wasn't a mytharc, but it wasn't really a motw either. However, it did remind me of how MADLY in love I am with the MSR. Trust, faith, loyalty, insecurity and a bond that makes the word "love" seem strangely insufficient. Sigh.

I think it's part of his charm.

I do not have Under the Skin, & I have not heard any comments about it from him, so I did not know this. Thanks though.

Actually though, "underground" is a recurring theme throughout GOS and it means somethng deeper and more universal than UTS. Just like he said Treason could be the relationship between 2 people or 2 nations, I think that going underground can mean that too. It's definition can be as big or small as the imagination allows.

In fact, the way he describes Big Love as saying "looking out for love" doesn't mean searching for it, but can also mean guarding and defending against it, I think that's a version of the "underground" concept too, as it relates to the music industry, love, and life in general. Take your feelings off the table. Keep them to yourself, if they're not going to be appreciated.

it isnt a translation/cultural thing
shipper comes from relationSHIP
originating from the Phile community many moons ago {Xfiles fans who were pro M&S hooking up at some point in the show/after the show}
Michele's post pertains to XF related storyline stuff...if you didnt/don't watch, u wont understand

but basically, everyone online now, who fans a "couple" call themselves shippers, usually they have nicknames
like BNers {Stevie & Linds shippers} MSR is Mulder & Scully relationship, Grillows is Catherine & Grissom from CSI Vegas.....or GSR if you're pro Grissom and Sara

et cetera et cetera et cetera

Wasn't that idea first aired in the L.A. Times in 1987?

Yes, but he hasn't been repeating it for 20 years. He apparently forgot about it and is just now pulling it out of the mothballs. He's very happy with himself too, because that speech is very popular. He gets laughter when he talks about guarding against love and he gets applause when he says that he wasn't about to be one of those fathers who wasn't there for his kids, like his friends were.

Interesting, in San Jose, when his family was there, he added that he saw friends AND family members who weren't there for their kids. So, I wondered if there were some relatives in the audience who he was thinking of.

I would posit that the reason that Lindsey is not a father has more to do with the fact that most of the women he dated did not want to be mothers, rather than the fact that he was actively avoiding paternity. His speech suggests that it was all the result of careful planning on his part.

The other termed used was "noromo" if you saw no romance, but I guess that one didn't catch on.

I will say that to the extent that I am shippy, it's not that I want any couples to get together, so much as that I tend to see a romance in most relationships. Romantic in the sense of an enduring commitment or bond, that overcomes and lasts even when the parties don't necessarily want it to. I kind of lean towards that rather than a smoochy, passionate, happily ever after future between the people.

I mean, I periodically take out a clip of Dean Martin appearing unexpectedly at one of the Jerry Lewis Telethon's and I cry (rather vigorously) about that. I look and wonder if Frank Sinatra (also in attendance) is as moved as I am by the scene and then I fumble for the kleenex, so I tend to veer ship.
