Default Favorite Lyrics

I've been on another FMac, LB, SN, CM... (sort of in that order) listening binge... And I love remembering some lines that I think are cool to repeat out loud. Sometimes you don't even expect the writer to have the attitude they do... but all three writers have some great one liners...

I'll start...

I'm not asking for love, just a little sympathy. Christine McVie

Probably my favorite-
'Cos my heart will rise up with the morning sun and the hurt I feel will simply melt away'

but one I find interesting-
'You hold the percentage but I'm the fool payin' the dues'

Fingers find the ivory keys and a song
Begins to begin like a wolf on the run ~Stevie Nicks

Apologies for referencing Bob Welch in this thread/section- but...

...cause we live in a time when paintings have no colour words don't rhyme.

I don't think he got enough credit for his lyrics.

I don't think anyone should ever apologise for bringing Bob Welch into this section.

They say there's a place down in Mexico
Where a man can fly over mountains and hills
And he don't need an airplane or some kind of engine
And he never will

Pretty evocative huh? It still gives me goosebumps every time I hear it...

So I close my eyes softly
Til I become that part of the wind
That we all long for sometime
And to those that I love
Like a ghost through a fog
Like a charmed hour
And a haunted song
And the angel of my dreams

Almost a breakdown of our love affair
The stiletto cuts quick like a whip through the air
Long distance winners will we survive the flight
Not one of us runs from the fire light

I would love to believe, I believe what you say
In the drama of the moment
Oh no there is no easy way, no one ever leaves
Everyone stays close 'till the fire fades

Do you always trust your first initial feeling
Special knowledge, holds true bears believing
I turned around and the water was closing all around
Like a glove, like the love that had finally, finally found me

Then I knew in the crystalline knowledge of you
Drove me through the mountains
Through the crystal like a clear water fountain
Drove me like a magnet, to the sea, to the sea

I know these are all Stevie lyrics, but then I think she's the best lyricist in the band.

I've always been fascinated by this line. If I could ask Stevie about any of her lines/song meanings, it would be this one. I have this image of her and Lindsey flinging shoes at each other during a fight, Jerry Springer style.

a stiletto is a type of knife.

Slim and thin and easily concealed. the shoe was name for the knife, because the heel of the shoe was reminiscent of the knife's blade.

Then I knew in the crystalline knowledge of you
Drove me through the mountains
Through the crystal like a clear water fountain
Drove me like a magnet, to the sea, to the sea

So I try to say goodbye, my friend
I'd like to leave you with something warm
But never have I been a blue calm sea
I have always been a storm

Well there's a heartbeat, and it never really dies...
All I ever wanted, was to know that you are dreaming...

Buy another fixture
Tell another lie
Paint another picture
See who's surprised

How the faces of love have changed, turning the pages
And I have changed, oh, but you, you remain ageless

You know all of our friends are gods
And they all tell us how to paint our face
But there's only one brush we need
It's the one that never leaves a trace

I haven't felt this way I feel
Since many a year ago
But in those years and the lifetimes past
I did not deal with the road
And I did not deal with you I know
Though the love has always been

If there's been a fool around,
It's got to be me

Could you ever need me
And would you know how

Spread your broken wings,
And learn how to fly.
Pretty yellow bird fly away,
into the sun................
