Hey there Bob

I agree and others here do too. There was a thread http://ledge.fleetwoodmac.net/showthread.php?t=36683 about it a few weeks ago.

But, I think it needs to be shouted from the roof tops everyday!

Well, the answer is somewhat more complicated than it seems. In the end, even if the US was right now tapped into all of its estimated oil deposits by the largest of estimates, all of that oil would not likely amount to 10% or so of the US' daily oil demands. So, the only answer is to lessen the demand.

Lessening the demand and by eventually getting off oil completely is the only way to get off od the foreign oil teet, so to speak.

The complicated part is this notion seems radical to many and is bitterly opposed by the oil indusry.

The part I do not get is the person who perfects the wind turbine and gets out of the oppression of the oil companies ("Atlas Shrugged" anyone ) who own the govt., will make billions. So, why Exxon or some other large oil company does not do it first is beyond me.

Boy, isn't that the truth? I don't know about you, but I'm definitely ready for a Hybrid, or a all-electric car, myself..

I do not have a car anymore. I do www.zipcar.com -- I went from about $1,000 + a month for a car (pmt., gas, insurance, maint., etc. ) - to about $50 total for a car. I use public transportation or taxis if I am going out for the night and cannot walk or take public trans.

I do not miss a car at all.

i am totally for public transportation~ when i lived in omaha proper i used it all the time~
but i have lived in bellevue for the past 20 years or so, which is a suburb or omaha, & they don't have buses or any type of public transportation, it stops right on the county line, which is just an intersection, it's not like i am in the boonies or anything~ it sucks they don't offer it to us to use~ the option has been raised, but to no avail~

^^^

Yea - the white neighborhoods of Northeast and Northwest Atlanta are vehemently fighting against allowing the train (MARTA) to go there. I love taking the train.

I don't usually agree with Boone Pickens but he is doing a noble thing here.
