Fans were happy to have new work. We filled millions of Ledge pages on it in 2003.

If you do a search you should find loads and loads of threads on it. It was a pretty exciting time.
Here's a few you can read yourself: http://ledge.fleetwoodmac.net/showthread.php?t=9343 http://ledge.fleetwoodmac.net/showthread.php?t=9420 http://ledge.fleetwoodmac.net/showthread.php?t=9351 http://ledge.fleetwoodmac.net/showthread.php?t=8775 http://ledge.fleetwoodmac.net/showthread.php?t=9485 Edit: I just found the thread about the fan club debacle and it contains Dissention's and gldstwmn's first posts! http://ledge.fleetwoodmac.net/showthread.php?t=8947

It was huge. I remember working in best buy the day the CD came out. I made a big display for it, even played the CD over the store loudspeakers (which was a no-no then but...).
The reviews for the album were generally positive, as they were for the tour. I saw them 3 times on that tour. I even met John McVie! It was a good time for the band, even if the album sales were disappointing.

My favorite memory from that time was walking into the Barnes & Noble in very conservative Cary, NC (think Stepford) and hearing "Murrow" cranked up at full volume during the guitar solo. It just made me laugh... very NOT bookstore music .
The press wasn't as interested in covering SYW as they were The Dance, but their reviews were generally very positive. Much like the fan community, there was a mixed reaction about the loss of Christine. Some liked the more masculine, dueling egos sound... some missed Christine's pop sensibility and equalizing presence. I would say overall, the whole project was a critical success. |
