I remember my dad said "this isn't the end, it's just the beginning." Cheesy, but he was right.

After you've been out of high school for a while (or maybe you realize it already) you get how silly and sometimes, insignificant, the whole experience is. Life gets better after high school. I mean, you have more responsibility...but high school is a cage.

The best part for me was that after that day no one could tell me to go to bed early. From that day forward I began my lifetime of being a nightbird.

In the U.S., "high school" is the term that refers to the final three (or sometimes four) years of compulsory schooling.

The terms "college" & "university" -- both referring to noncompulsory schooling that follows high school -- are often used interchangeably in the U.S. in conversation, although whereas "university" pertains almost always to four-year degree (B.A., B.S.) & (what we call) graduate school (M.A., M.S., Ph.D.), "college" is also used to refer to two-year degree schooling (A.A.), so-called "junior colleges," & university prep as well as vocational school.

Sometimes you see the name "college" used in titles of law schools & medical schools, & the term is also used academically within universities as titles of departments or other broad classifications: for example, U.C. Irvine's College of Music.

Why is a US degree course 4 years and a UK one 3 years? In the UK you only do 4 years if you're doing some of the language or engineering courses. Is there a reason? Medicine is the same - 5 or 6 years before you qualify.

Some UK universities are made up of a series of semi-independent colleges. I think that is the same with some of the US universities too.

And goodluck Caitlin.

Congratulations sweetheart!
I remember my last day of high school. I graduated mid-term, so my last day was the last day before Christmas break.
I cried like a baby. I was scared to death. I was happy to be done with it and sad to leave schooling behind, but scared of what the real world was like.
I wish I would have went on to college, but instead I took 2 months off and went to work. I've been working since.

It takes Americans an extra year to learn the material.

HA! Aww, don't be scared. It's a good time. I remember my first semester of college was miserable, because I missed high school so much. I didn't realize it until after the summer of course, because I wanted it to be over so badly. But I've been out of HS for 11 years now (oh my God)...and I think of it fondly. I had some good times, and maybe studied a bit too hard, but it was good to me and I didn't have a horrific experience as some people do (getting picked on, or what have you). Seriously, don't be scared. Everything that happens to you, or did happen to you in high school will just seem like a pale comparison in the future. Everything will just seem so small and silly. That's how it was for me anyway.

#1- Universities are greedy

#2- Americans are mostly idiots (ie Look who was elected President twice, need I say more???)

Congrats for finishing high school...It was 20 years ago for me (HATED every second of that popularity contest)
