Billy Thorpe in Queen's Birthday Honours
There's probably more interest in this here than on the main boards.
Billy Thorpe has posthumously been made a Member of the Order of Australia. http://www.smh.com.au/news/National/...414147013.html That's the current local equivalent of the MBEs The Beatles received. Last year the members of Rush were made Officers of the Order of Canada, one step up from Member. |

I had the pleasure of seeing Billy front The Zoo once in the early 90's. He was a great front man, Mick was wild and they had an additional percussionist who I believe was from Africa. If I remember correctly, this was one of the lower points in Mick's life and the band used rented or house equipment and came and went in a plain white van. I know because they drove by us standing outside the bar after the gig and Mick was hanging halfway out the window screaming at us. The band sounded great though and everybody had a really good time.
This is a nice honor for Billy. I was not aware that he had passed on. On edit: I was getting Billy confused with Ron Thompson. I'm not sure if Mick was calling his band The Zoo or Blue Whale or what at this particular time. Last edited by gldstwmn; 06-17-2007 at 04:48 PM.. |
