Default Analyzing album covers: Fleetwood Mac (1975)

Now it's the "white" album analysis.

I never saw the vynil album, just the CD so couldn't see the original large photo. At first I asked, is John kneeling or pretending to be a dwarf? Besides, just for an instant, the crystal ball looked to me like an earth globe, but I was just confusing the South America shape with their inverted silhouettes.

I wondered also how they convinced John to appear in the front cover. He always seems to be the shy and quiet member. But probably it was Mick's idea according to what he wrote: We finished recording and mixing the new album in June 1975, titled Fleetwood Mac for the sake of continuity.

Oh, this thread came quicker than I expected.

I like it. I like John and Mick there. I don't like the Rumours cover, but I do like the way that it repeats themes from the Fleetwood Mac cover. I like it when they carry threads through.

I love this one, it's stylish and abstracted and a little absurd. I think the black and white is very striking.

Although it's not one of my favorites, it's certainly interesting and warrants a closer look. Mick and John are very whimsical, and their poses kind of remind me of characters from Fantasia or a Disney movie or something.

To me, this is one of the most captivating cover's of all time. It's simple yet elegant and mysterious. The Doorway in the background, the ball, and the silhouette like Mick Fleetwood makes it all the more intriguing.

You know, you are right, I love the continuity (sp) also with the "Best of" album. There also seems to be a representation or repetion of "hands".

and to Villavic, I think John wasn't too hard to convince. He posed many a silly or abstract poses during this time. (i.e. the FM "gold record" photo for Seedy Management, and the one with him and Mick dressing in drag {or just detective-Nancy Drew coats} in front of a porn theatre and pawn shop).

Speaking of hands, remember inside the SYW booklet, there was a picture of four outstretched hands. Very nice message.

It was a beautiful picture, but none of the hands could shake hands. I wonder if the band was saying something about themselves... or just that it had to do with the song itself.

No, I think it is a statement about them. You're reaching out. It's the same elusiveness you get in the Hold Me video. Trying to break through, the glass, the sand, the heat. I mean, you are trying for something and you may not attain it, searching for a connection that you may not always find, but, um, maybe the reward is in the search, not the discovery.

Yearning, stretching, trying to find each other.

That's a very inciteful approach, one I didn't think about it. I think, yes for the Peacekeeper single cover, the none shaking of hands makes sense.

(this was not my original post) I went searching online for the Legacy Tribute album of 98 to find the image(I'm sure Michelle can find it quickly) and lost my original thought here.

Anyway, I was thinking that a new single cover to fit the continuity of the hands (for Miss Fantasy or other) would be similar to the above mentioned cover with the hands (or fingertips) barely touching.

Also, is it just me or is it a little hard to count the hands?

Is it a slight optical illusion? There's something about the positioning where, when I first saw the picture, I thought it was 5 hands and I actually had to touch them all as I counted to see there were only four.

It would be about themselves if it was about the 70s and 80s. I think actually if was about the world situation during that year (and even now!)

The 1975 FM cover...

So, funny story. I recently bought a vinyl remaster; the double LP 45 RPM one. The gatefold cover is glorious. Anyway, my boyfriend saw it this past weekend and asked me why they were making fun of little people. He found it very distasteful.

I suppose he is no fan of Tim Conway either!
