Default GDW's breaking glass

Where is it? What happened to it?

Some official versions have it, some do not. I don't think any of the current official versions I have on my computer have it, so I can't remember which version I had at one point DID have the breaking glass sound.

I know they've talked about how much darker that sound made the song, but I don't understand why it would be included in some versions, and left out of others.

I have it on the Rumours CD I bought in 1997 (not sure what year it was pressed), but it's not on the reissue from 2004. I'm pretty sure it's also missing from The Chain box set, and I think it's usually absent when I hear it on Sirius as well. It always sounds weird to me NOT to hear the breaking glass at the end since the first CD is the one I used to play nonstop.

But yeah, I have no idea why it was taken out so many years later. Weird.

I never really understood the whole thing about the glass-breaking sound. It isn't very prominent at all, even after all the effort they went through to record it. I remember in Carol Ann's book, she made it sound like it was the best thing since sliced bread

I think that is was not on the original LP. When they remastered for the ORIGINAL CD issue in the 80's they mixed it in somehow. Since this was the version of Rumours most of us bought and most us younger people heard first this was the version we think if as the real one, when it isn't really the original mix. Also this would be the version most pirated as it would have been the one ripped back in the days of Napster etc.

The Chain box set had yet another remix/remaster

The Rumours DVD had still another remix

and 2004 remaster I think we're more faithful to the original mixes( in most cases)

The "breaking glass" mix is also included on 'The Very Best of Fleetwood Mac.'
