That is so damn funny! I'm guessing I was about 3 or 4 when Rosanna by Toto came out. Mom and dad had the 45. I remember running around the front room table like a nut singing and dancing to this song. I was a few years older when Karma Chameleon came out, but I remember loving it so much. It still has a spot in my heart for helping remember my childhood.

I LOVE Rosanna. Shoot, I love Toto in general.

First album I remember getting was Styx Mr. Roboto. My dad bought it for me & my brother when I was about 7? My own purchases (birthday money, I think) were Wham! Make It Big. I also vividly recall having Madonna Dress You Up on 45.

FOOTLOOSE! I loved the movie so much.

I also got Grease as a gift. Grease the song is kind of dirty for a kid. I don't know what happened to my records, they were lost/stolen or something after I moved out of my parents' house. I didn't have many but they were mine dammit.

One thing I noticed about this thread: The older you are, the more likely you were to have your 1st vinyl at an earlier age.

I was 10 years old when "Physical" came out and I was hooked. For the next two years I was all about Livvy - then I discovered Stevie in 1983 and Livvy took a back seat to Ms. Nicks - but I still love Livvy to this day.

WOW.. Great thread Betsy!! I SOOO can't remember which album I bought first.. I think I remember my Parent's buying my Sis and I "More of the Monkees"- back in 1968. ROTFL.. I was 10, and my Sis was 8- and we were die-hard Monkees fans.. lolol.. We used to watch their tv show, and were in love with Davy Jones! - Oh Lord.. LOLOL- We would put on our "go-go boots" and dance like 2 fleas all over the house when we played that album... (Ok.. I'm going to crawl under a rock now) LMAO

The Monkees were cool back then. I remember almost every friend of mine wanted to be Mrs. Davy Jones. Well, until David Cassidy came along. We were a very fickle bunch of little girls

First album in any way: The Beach Boys 20 Golden Greats, on cassette. My dad got me into the Beach Boys, I'd already stolen a couple of his cassettes but that one I bought...because there were a couple songs on there I wanted to hear that weren't on any I could find of my dad's. That was probably around 1994, when I was 12.

First CD: The Beach Boys Pet Sounds.

First LP: ...dang. I want to say, The Beach Boys' self-titled record that came out in 1985. Except I bought it in, I believe 1998. The BB's were absolutely my first musical love, LOL...until that fateful day in spring 1999, where I encountered Lindsey's face on the Rumours Classic Albums...the rest is history...

First 45: Actually, this would be Katrina and the Waves, Walkin' On Sunshine...wayyyy back whenever it was that that came out, too, LOL. My mom and I both loved it, and although I was too young to earn an allowance even, I remember my mom gave me a little money to spend one day when we were out, and that's what I bought. I used to dance around our little apartment for HOURS to that thing!

Fun thread idea...this took some thought!!
