Default New Rick Vito Studio CD

Hi everybody,

I just saw the new Rick Vito CD announced on the site of his German record company!

http://www.hypertension-music.de/

The CD will be out n October and will be called "Rattlesnake Shake". Sounds good, doesn't it?

The more FM related material, the better! Thanks for the heads up!

It's great that he made a new album, but hey, doesn't this smell cheap?

What do you mean by "cheap"?

oh, come on Chili, to title your album Rattlesnake Shake and cover Albatross. Where's the man's own face. He's too much a guitarist to just lean on the work of others. Not saying he's doing that, but with this information it surely looks that way.

One of his main influences is Peter Green, and he covers a tune of his, so what? It's not as if his albums are total covers...he MAYBE covers one or two songs per album...he writes the majority of his own material.

Even the Beatles did cover tunes...a TON of cover tunes...that's not "cheap"?

I think you're stirring up cheap controversy where there is none.

Exactly!

I must admit I am not very familiar with his CDs but I saw two of his gigs over the last years on German TV, the last one being from September last year. I can say that he is doing the covers very much in his own way, and that is more than just OK for me!

Many of PG influenced guitar players, like Gary Moore, Snowy White, Bernie Marsden etc. cover PG songs and most times the results are excellent. This is what keeps the legend alive!

For example, if you listen to Snowy White this is in my opinion a way Peter could have taken musically if he had not got all these problems.

Fair enough. I don't want to stir up anything. How many Beatlesalbums are named after tunes of others? I am talking about how you put yourself in the market, not that doing a cover is being cheap. I even think Lindsey's take on Here Comes The Sun is brilliant. Sorry. Now I AM stirring up controversy where there is one. Cheapness is not in doing something you adore ( and I think I like too what Rick's liking....) but how you try to sell something of yourself using the flagship of others. I don't think I can pronounce myself clearer, that looks cheap in my book.

Well, THAT says volumes about your hearing.

Without hearing the album, but knowing Rick, maybe the entire "vibe" of the album will have a Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac feel. And, therefore titled the album to reflect that.

Well I sure hope so. It would be great if it turns out that way. But I could say: Without hearing the album, and presume I do NOT know Rick that well, it looks like someone uses some great songtitles to sell his own mediocre work. My criticism is pointed at his use of image. That's why I said:

But did I make myself clear on the cheapness-issue? I think you UNDERSTAND what I mean. Not asking for agreement here. That's impossible. We haven't heard a note yet.

Well that is one term I would NEVER use with Rick Vito...his own work is FAR from "mediocre". Light years above that. (IMOHO, of course)

If his guitar work was "mediocre", I would seriously doubt that he would've gotten the session/studio work he has, nor would he have gotten the praises from people he's played with.

I'm using that term because he's not that big artist, using titles of a BIG one. Still, I'm not talking about what it IS, but what it APPEARS. And I know how good he is as a player, but be fair, he's not famous because of his songwriting.
