Rare FM singles in the 50-cent bin....
This is very self-indulgent. I never go into used CD/record stores, but yesterday I sought cover in one during a major rainstorm here in Boston. At the front of the store is a cut-out bin featuring an avalanche of vinyl (12-inch, 45 & standard LP).
Right on top - an album-size (33 rpm) of Think About Me. Side one: Think About Me (remix) 2:42 min. B-Side: Save Me a Place. (Promotional Copy; Not for Sale). Obviously intended for radio, this piece of vinyl has never been played. Underneath that was a Spanish 45 rpm for Sara. B-side: That's Enough for Me ("Suficiente para mi"). All of credits on the vinyl are in Spanish. Of course, good things come in threes, so there's also a 45 of The Farmer's Daughter. I didn't even realize it was released as a single from the Live album. All three are in great condition and were in plastic bags. The price? 50 cents each. Store manager said there's about a dozen FM/Stevie singles tucked away in another box that will end up in the cut-out bin in the next two weeks. He even offered to put them aside for me and asked for my email. Does this happen anymore? Are random people this cool? I did some quick scans for the hell of it...love the big Stevie/John picture on the back of Think About Me. Front: Back: Front: Back (I added blue arrow): Front: |

Like a surprise treasure hunt. I think these are great just for the sleeves alone, forget about the music! I would have had chills.

Exactly! I've moved on to buying the vinyl records just so I can hold them in my hands while listening to the CDs.
True story. You have stumbled upon a treasure trove!

I still love my gatefold, 33 rpm Rooms on Fire import with the giant, double-sided fold-out Stevie poster with a live shot from Seven Wonders on one side and a Neal Preston shot (I think, or Paul Cox) on the other.

Great finds....I'd have been excited too. I think I have all of those plus many many more 45's Fmac/Stevie. I recall getting the Uncirculated Rumours vinyl (all 3 lps) at this music store here in Michigan (it was called Music,Music) which was in the early 90's....its closed down now. (sad but true) its hard to find these kinds of places anymore really. There in great condition...don't know if they were ever played at all. This is the black vinyl set (they were put out also in all red vinyl and I think red/white/blue vinyl? I do have I think one red vinyl one...still need the other 2. Anyway, the guy that owed that music store was also a rock photographer back in the day (70's) He did take photos of Fmac alot...I almost got pictures from him but I wanted too many and he didn't want to send off the original negatives either in case he never got them back. Some were wonderful. Esp the Tusk live ones. I wished I'd only wanted a couple. He had one's of Stevie with the blue dress on from the Blue Lamp photo session too....she used to were it live for Tusk shows I guess....I do kick myself now really. He also helped out HHWIII for the WH photo shoot too(he showed me photo negatives of just inside the house but thats it he wouldn't show me any outtake photos ....)his name is on the inside of the WH LP his name is Robert Alford? I think....it says photographers assitant or something like that.....He used to work for I think? Cream magazine in the 70's/80's....anyway, thats what I recall.....Nice job though....check the place out again...who knows what you might find....tell that guy what your seeking and well ya never know what treasures he might uncover for you....cds too? who knows pictures or posters too...........Good job....

I tried to respond to this last night but it didn't go thru. Those were kick ass finds! Now you'll be seeking stuff everywhere!
I was in San Luis Obispo this last weekend, and went to a record store I had never been to. I didn't find anything, but the prospect of a find was so exciting. Dorky I know. I also ask GDO if I could be in your will, cause with a 45 collection nearing the 300 mark (all FM/SN) I don't even have the Spanish Sara 45! KUDOS! |
