Mick Fleetwood says the Eagles' "surprise" plan to perform without the late Glenn Frey is "really historical"

One of the musical highlights of this summer will be the Classic East/Classic West Festivals, taking place in July in New York and L.A. with a lineup that includes Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles, The Doobie Brothers, Journey, Steely Dan, and Earth, Wind & Fire. The Eagles haven't performed since co-founder and frontman Glenn Frey died last year, but according to Fleetwood Mac's Mick Fleetwood, they've somehow found a way to fill the huge gap left by Frey's absence.

"I'll leave the surprise of how they're doing it to unfold in their own world at these two shows," Fleetwood tells ABC Radio, "[but] I think it's really historical."

The drummer adds that he's delighted that The Eagles are returning to the stage.

"I think it's hugely profound for the Eagles that they're coming out and doing these shows," he tells ABC Radio. "And I'm really glad that the band is still existing and seemingly intent on continuing as a band."

As for Fleetwood Mac, so far the two festivals, on July 16 and July 30, are the only announced dates for the band, though guitarist Lindsey Buckingham and singer/keyboardist Christine McVie are doing their own tour starting in June to promote their self-titled duets album.

I agree. The Eagles need the money even less than FM. Money grubbing indeed.

They all must be seriously addicted to the adulation of being on stage(not joking at all, seriously - if you're going to whore your brand out).

I agree that the need to play to thousands of fans is part of the lure, in addition to the money. Henley solo is the biggest name, but he can never hope to draw Eagle-sized crowds. If he wants the arena crowds, he needs the brand.

To me, though, that brand means nothing without Glenn Frey. It would be like Fleetwood Mac without Mick Fleetwood!

I am really bummed that when I finally get to see the Eagles live, Glenn is dead, his songs are my favorite. I want to see Lyin Eyes live so bad. I am really hoping Jackson Browne is filling in for Glenn and they still play all Glenn's songs.

Stevie and Don seem to be in the same boat.

It was Glenn's band. They've got a gazillion dollars. I think it's tacky as hell that they're carrying on without him.

I agree. It seems very distasteful.

Tacky ..I really thought that they meant it that they would disband when Glenn passed but not totally surprised that greed won out again with these geezers.

You know, maybe hologram is not that far-fetched. Maybe so.

They could do the old Unforgettable bit, where he appears via video and the live (and alive) performers interact with the video as well, but since that has been done by others, would it be historic?

Sorry to leap back....but Angel is my out and out favourite song,
gives me shivers down my spine, even after all these years.

So why is it considered unsingable with their current voices ?
They get round almost everything else ....lowering the key, back up voices,
Etc etc

Her screaming at the end of the song would destroy what's left of her voice.
