Default Buckingham McVie

With Lindsey's return all but completely written off now and new music from the current line up appearing increasingly unlikely, it seems the last band project will forever be Buckingham McVie. Yes, I know it's not technically a Fleetwood Mac album, but for all intents and purposes if we call Say You Will a Fleetwood Mac album, we may as well call Buckingham McVie one too.

I've been listening to the album again lately and I'd forgotten just how good it is. So many of the songs and so catchy - Sleeping Around the Corner, Feel About You, Red Sun, Lay Down for Free...the epic closer Carnival Begin!

This album to me is better than Say You Will and although it's not the ending I'd hoped for (like many of us I held out hope until the last moment that Stevie would be involved), it is still a great ending.

What do you think?

It WAS supposed to be a FM record, except for you know who refusing to participate(THIS is the legacy she left the band with).

It's every bit as much a FM record as SYW. I far prefer it! Christine always added the sweetness that made FM work. SYW had none of that. SYW is dark and depressing to my ears. BuckVie is fun pop! I love it. I'm thankful to have it as their swan song(again, a record from all 5 would have been better, but we know where the blame lies).

Too bad Christine didn't stand up for her musical partner of 42 years. #nospine #chaiseloungechristine #sheaintnosuperwoman

It's a great album - I love all the songs apart from Feel About You which I can't abide.

Just such a massive shame that Stevie wanted to tour her album instead of contribute. Would've been amazing as the last Mac record.

You can blame Christine, but we don't know what she said or did behind the scenes. Maybe she did stand up for Lindsey and they just didn't listen. Besides, sure, she could say "Lindsey's in or I'm out" and they could have called her bluff and decided to disband Fleetwood Mac altogether.

Back to the album. Definitely is fun pop - except for songs like Love is Here to Stay and Game of Pretend, I wouldn't call them fun, they're a bit more serious. I still like Say You Will, yes a lot of it is depressing but I always found the title track very uplifting.

If she'd said, "fire him, and I'M GONE", that would have stopped it. GUARANTEED. But she didn't. They wouldn't have disbanded. Old goat $tevie would have had to get over it, rather than being a spoiled child, and demanding his ouster.

But Mick had his meal ticket's back. Have I ever mentioned that Mick is pretty much the sleaziest character in the history of music?

Honestly, I've never understood the massive love that Carnival gets. It's okay, but one of my least favorite songs on the album.

that would have been the right move.

They could have played theaters for the rest of their days, and I'd have followed them as frequently as I could have!

Makes me wonder if John and Dick would have played the theaters for the lesser money...

I think it's pleasant but that's about it. Honestly I was hoping for more. I think a Mac album really needs both Buckingham and Nicks, there's just something about their formidable talents - especially put together with that tension. Of the 4 albums since TANGO, I think only SAY YOU WILL comes close to matching the quality of the classic albums. BEHIND THE MASK fails without Buckingham, and BUCKINGHAM MCVIE fails without Nicks, and TIME, well I think that kind of fails in general.

Like Mirage, every time I listen to this album it gets better. I almost always hear something on it that really impresses me. It does have that BuckVie magic I love . And this tour was unique and amazing! I think Lay Down for Free has a boring arrangement. Game of Pretend could have been much better with a little arranging, too.

What I love:

Carnival Begin is so good I cry sometimes when I hear it.

In My World is superb, and I think of him saying all this to Sleazy. Especially, the last uh ah oh.

Love Is Here To Stay is just simply magical. Those harmonies. Wow!

Feel About You is genius because of Lindsey. It's so sweet and I hated it at first listen.

Too Far Gone was amazing live. Love what Christine did with this song. You can tell she was proud of it.

I didn't miss Nicks at all. He nasal voice might have ruined this gem.

I LOVE it as the swan song for them. Best of all.....GOAT FREE!(of god, now I've got "Born Free" stuck in my head - someone needs to rewrite the lyrics with goat free - I don't have time right now.....). That is all.

I had the CD in my car for about a year. Its been out for about a year but I recently listened and I was still impressed how good it is.

I just recently gave it a spin. It sounds better to me with every listen. I still BLAST it when it comes on in my car.
