I'm wending my way through "Mimesis" by Erich Auerbach, which I meant to start years ago. It will take me several weeks.

After I finish off Auerbach (or it finishes me off), I want to pick up something else I've been meaning to read for a long time: "Class" by Paul Fussell, who pigeon-holes people in the best misanthropic tradition!

Her book on Jack the Ripper was fantastic. She knows her stuff, lemme tell ya.

It was interesting for the first half and then I kind of got bored with it. But, it was a documentary of sorts and they are usually not that compelling when compared to fiction.

It did get slow at times, but the woman spent millions upon millions to do that book, so i figured since I bought it, I owed it to her to finish it.

Yesterday I started reading Al Franken's Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them. I am floored by the amount of research that went into this book. Franken paints a very convincing picture of the folks he identifies as liars. They include Bill O'Reilly, Bernard Goldberg and Ann Coulter.

Before that I read Tears of the Giraffe by Alexander McCall Smith. This is the sequel to the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency. If you haven't read any of these, give them a try. They are delightful reads.

I know - I finished it as well. I thought the whole whing about the painter being JTR was just scary beyond words. I mean some of those paintings were very much like the murdered women

That's what everyone says! I think it's a masterpiece of non-fiction and consider it one of my favorites of all time. I can't wait to see what he puts out next.

He had his own research team from Harvard. It's very well done.

Talking books

Just got finished with "The Forest House" by Marrion Zimmer Bradley it's in the Mists of Avalon series, this one is really heartbreaking, a bit bittersweet.

Over break I finished Valley of the Dolls, wow, I was totally engrossed, wish we could've read this in school. Also read The Cobra Event not to long ago, a great suspense novel.

Next on list to read:
Da Vincci Code and Girl With Pearl Earring

I, too just received The Da Vinci Code.

My friend read it in 3 days and told me to start reading when I have nothing planned for at least that amount of time 'cause I won't be able to put it down

She took notes and everything!!!

Sounds like a great read

Yes, but I think it would have been funnier to name the researchers FrankenTeam instead of TeamFranken. But, hey, that's just me.

Tell your friend to pick up Holy Blood, Holy Grail. You have to stick through the slower chapters for the big payout at the end. It is obvious that Dan Brown based a lot of the Da Vinci Code on this book. Clue: the characters' names.

I read the script for "Me and Juliet" yesterday which has to be THE most boringest play ever written.
