When you play these albums, name the songs you ALWAYS skip

I'm amazed at how many people skip final tracks on albums. For one, I don't know how you CAN skip the final track on an album, I guess you just quit listening or move to another album?

I think FM were excellent at opening and closing albums, and would never skip any of those tracks. To the person who would skip Over and Over and Never Forget, you need to listen to the album over, including those two. Never Forget is probably my favourite way an album ends besides maybe a couple Pink Floyd albums.


As for not skipping, that doesn't mean I listen with orgasmic pleasure to some of the Mirage and Tango tracks for example, but I ain't skipping them, it makes you enjoy the rest more. And FM were always good at structuring their albums.


Never listened to BTM or Time. May eventually, but I love LB. Going to listen to SYW for the first time soon.
The only album I intentionally skip is the 1980 Live album, it's uninteresting to me, I like a lot of the live boots instead (Tusk Tour Rehearsals FTW!!).

I may skip tracks if I want to go to sleep hearing one particular track, but that's about it.

The Dance: don't really listen to it, although on my iPod, I've tried to stitch together the songs in the order they were played by adding the songs left off the CD and put the CD in "actual" running order of the DVD. The only song I'm missing to make the playlist complete is "Gold Dust Woman".
Say You Will: Running Through The Garden, and sometimes "Silver Girl" (actually I redid my SYW playlist subbing "Not Make Believe" & Lindsey's Dylan cover for those two)

*= I have a playlist of Tusk with only my fave songs...sometimes I'll swap these two for "Save Me A Place" & "Sara"

Probably because "Manalishi" came out AFTER it was released and "Man Of The World" was sold to a different record label before TPO was finished.

I could be wrong but I don't think Peestie was saying those singles should have replaced When You Say, just that, along with the rest of the material on the album (aside from When You Say), they are proof they were producing their best ever material around that time, that's why that song is such an oddity.

Exactly.

Everything else then was so many times better than When You Say that it just seems like a strange dip in quality. But I guess someone must have liked it enough to get it on there.

I don't skip any songs on any albums. I like listening to an entire body of work, even though there may be some songs I like better than others; I take the good and not so good.

I'm not one to cherry pick, which is something I that I find distressing with new technologies like ITunes. Previewing a song for a minute and determining whether you like it or not actually cuts out alot of material that may otherwise grow on you overtime, and may actually become some of your favorite songs.

Like wine, songs age well if you stick with them. Even the most questionable or quirky songs of Fleetwood Mac hold some value, if only just for their distinction!

Actually, on my LP of Then Play On, 'When You Say' is not included.

Well, I certainly think Mirage is worth owning, even if not all the songs are great, and the sound quality leaves you wanting an immediate remaster... anyway, "Straight Back" alone is probably worth the $10 spent on the album (well, it was on special at $10)! Personally, it's just Lindsey's songs that drag the album down (except for me, as I'm fond of them all, particularly "Empire State").
As for track skipping... I don't think I've ever skipped any, except for the time recently when I heard half of Mirage (coincidentally) before my portable CD player batteries ran out, and I returned to the second half later on.
Actually, I've just remembered a long lost memory - I used to skip "Monday Morning" all the time when I bought TVBOFM, my first FM album. It was so different to what I was expecting (songs like "Seven Wonders" and "Everywhere") that it took me months before I tentatively listened to it again. I learned to like it, to the point where I thought it would be the perfect concert opener, which it was!

I have to agree. I do actually like Mirage.
I'm also not ashamed to admit that I also like "Oh Diane"

I think Mirage is one of their best albums. (yes, I really mean that!) I also love 'Oh Diane'. It's pretty difficult to not love a song where Lindsey asks 'Will you stand by me, always?'

You have the American release of TPO, which swapped out a few Kirwan tunes for Oh Well (1 and 2). But the cd restores all the original material.
