Default Dave Mason will Release EP

http://www.contactmusic.com/article/...y-2014_4005844

The Newbury Port Current, December 22, 2013

Think ahead: Dave Mason, Traffic Jam in Salisbury

SALISBURY —

The new year has not even begun, of course, but, still, this is looking like one of those shows we’ll look back at and say, “Dude, one of the best shows of the year.” Right? And we’ll have a lot more to say about it as the year and the actual date get closer, but, for now, as old Jack Webb used to say, just the facts, man.

We’re talking Dave Mason, singer, songwriter and guitarist. The co-founder of Traffic back in the day, in 1966. The guy wrote “Feelin’ Alright,” famously covered by Joe Cocker, and monster hits like “We Just Disagree” and “Only You Know and I Know.” Who went on to a successful solo career, touring with Hendrix, the Stones, George Harrison, Delaney & Bonnie, Graham Nash, Paul McCartney, Joe Walsh and Fleetwood Mac. Live, Jan. 18 at Blue Ocean Music Hall in Salisbury, which is where he will unveil “Dave Mason’s Traffic Jam,” which will feature hits and deep album cuts from 1967’s “Mr. Fantasy” and 1968’s “Traffic” albums and additional Traffic jams plus new material and classic Mason music.

He will be releasing a new EP called “Future’s Past,” featuring new versions of his classic songs plus new material that he has written and performed on tour over the last few years, a little later in the year. The EP will be available at davemasonmusic.com and at live shows.

“I think that it is important to keep alive the legacy of four young men from the heartland of England and their contribution to contemporary music,” says Mason, “and ‘Traffic Jam,’ aside from the obvious material, will hopefully grow into the basis for other artists to participate. Keep the spirit alive!”

Tickets are $30-45. The club is located at 4 Oceanfront North, Salisbury. Check out blueoceanhall.com for more info.

...and this is my problem with Dave Mason. He just keeps living in the past, playing those old songs, rehashing them time and time again in various versions on various albums, which is why I have 12 versions of Feelin' Alright.

I really liked his last album 26 Notes, 12 Letters (and it is the only Mason album that I actually play) and I really wish he'd come out with full albums of new material.

Agreed, but it sounded like he was done with releasing anything after 26/12 so at least it's something, even if it's not really what we want.

I guess that's my frustration with FM in the bigger picture, is that they've decided they know what we want and they clearly don't, but oh well, won't win that fight.

Really 26/12 was such a fresh and amazing album from him, really wished he had kept up with that.

There are sadly so few FM members that are producing the music that the fans want. Really only perhaps Lindsey, Jeremy, Billy and Dave Walker who are even trying.

It's funny... I thought the knock against him while in Traffic was that he didn't really jam with the other guys but was sort of an on his own solo self contained composer.
