Guide to the Recording Equipment, Songs and Instruments Featured on The Beatles' 'Revolver' Album

Revolver is the album that made the Beatles recording artists in the absolute sense of the term.Their previous six albums had demonstrated John Lennon and Paul McCartney's increasingly ambitious songwriting skills and the group's competence with a range of musical styles. But the productions, while strong, were undistinguished.

Ringo Starr says taking producer's role on new album was 'so much fun'

Ringo Starr, in a new magazine interview, says the idea of self-producing his latest album “Ringo 2012” made him so nervous originally he phoned a friend to lend a hand, but later changed his mind and decided to produce it himself. The former Beatle tells writer Howie Edelson in the*latest issue of Beatlefan (#159),"I got a little insecure, and I actually did call Mike Bradford, the bass player. I called him up and said, 'Look, I’m doing this myself, maybe I’m gonna need some help. I’m still insecure. I’ve never produced before.' And then two weeks later I called him back and I said, 'Look, I know I said I need you, but I’m having so much fun. I’m just gonna do this myself.'”

Ringo Starr's first All-Starr Band was heavenly to see and hear

They were the first ones out of the gate, but as time goes by, it's becoming increasingly clear that the first version of Ringo Starr's All-Starr Band from 1989, which included Levon Helm, who died today, was one hell of a super group. There was Joe Walsh from the Eagles, now Ringo's brother-in-law, on guitar. Billy Preston, the only outside musician ever to get credit on a Beatles record, played keyboards. The legendary Dr. John also played keyboards.

But before Lennon travelled the globe playing music with The Beatles, this boy from Liverpool, England saw the world in a whole different way —through stamps. Lennon's older cousin, Stanley Parkes, inspired the future Beatle's interest in stamp collecting and gave him this album.

We leave you today with something remarkable. There’s been some interesting photos of individuals from days past that resembled people living today. For instance, John Travolta looked like a time traveler thanks to this old-time photo, and people were calling Nicolas Cage a vampire because of this one. But, uncovered today is a photo that might just show Doctor Who’s Matt Smith (or the Doctor himself if you prefer) hanging out with the Beatles! Strange Fruit Tells the Epic, Enthralling Story of The Beatles' Failed Apple Records

The film: Strange Fruit: The Beatles’ Apple Records (2012), available on DVD via Chrome Dreams. Why It’s an Inessential Essential: Clocking in at a mammoth 162 minutes, Strange Fruit: The Beatles’ Apple Records is an exhaustive new documentary about the short-lived record and film label that the Beatles used to release such artists as Badfinger and James Taylor. And while the absence of Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney and the lack of archival interview footage of the Beatles is striking (John Lennon only chimes in around the 135-minute mark), that’s also sort of liberating: The film takes a semi-critical look at why Apple, a label that was meant to have established artists promote new artists, never really took off.

The Beatles can use your votes in MTV's Battle of the Boy Bands

It's hard to believe that the Beatles would need anyone's help in any kind of contest. But at the moment, they're running neck and neck with New Kids on the Block in the second round of voting in MTV's Battle of the Boy Bands. Also competing in the second round besides the Beatles and New Kids are the Wanted, the Monkees, Big Time Ruth, Boyz II Men, the Jonas Brothers, Hanson, One Direction, IM5, NKOTBSB and Mindless Behavior.

Yoko Ono ~ 'Fly' Opens

Warsaw, Poland - For the past fifty years Yoko Ono has been a leading experimental and avant-garde artist - one of very few women - in an international context. In the course of time she has been associated with Conceptual Art, performances, Fluxus and happenings, but above all she has been an independent artist, a pioneer, who has decisively questioned the concept of art and the art object and has broken down the traditional boundaries between branches of art.

Re-meet the Beatles

Wonder upon wonders, "new" material from the Beatles is still springing forth - on Apple apps, videodiscs, CD, and soon at a movie theater near you.-Material evidence.George Harrison was the gearhead of the group - quite a good photographer and gadget lover - and also a media hoarder. Evidence comes to the fore Tuesday with the home-video release of Martin Scorsese's documentary film "George Harrison: Living in the Material World" and the simultaneous release of the Abrams Books multitouch iPad/ iPhone/ iPod e-book of the same name.

Paul Robert Gibbs Entertained the Beatles in Key West
KEY WEST, Fla. — Paul Robert Gibbs passed on to the next stage of his journey, peacefully at his home on Sunday, April 22, 2012, one week after celebrating his 97th birthday.

On Sept. 11, 1964, the start-up Beatles were in the midst of their first North American tour and scheduled for a concert appearance at the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville, Fla. They left Montreal, Canada, that morning, only to have their charter plane diverted to Key West because Hurricane Dora was ravaging the northeast Florida coast. It was Paul who was the manager on duty that day and welcomed them to the Key Wester. The Beatles left two days later for a make-up concert in Jacksonville on Sept. 13, but not without having been graced by Paul's delightful wit, charm and infectious laughter. A lover of life, he exemplified “full participation," holding season tickets to the local theaters until his mid-90s where he sat in the same front-row seat year after year. He was an avid supporter of the arts and befriended many actors in our community.

The Mariachi Mystery Tour is set for a 7 p.m. Saturday performance at Marshall Auditorum. Director Lorenzo Martinez is a Beatles fan, and wondered three years ago how the music of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr would sound in the stylings of a Mariachi band.

Mother & Son: Yoko Ono & Sean Lennon

Yoko Ono is nothing less than a cultural icon. From her early years in New York's artistic avant-garde, to her marriage and collaborations with Beatle John Lennon, to her creative activism promoting peace, Ono has made, and continues to make, a powerful impact on our world.*Sean Lennon--Ono and John Lennon's son born in 1975--is a creative musician in his own right, and has been performing with and directing his mother's Plastic Ono Band for years. Spinning On Air host/producer David Garland invited Sean to create a playlist of his mother's music, and present it with her on Mother's Day.

‪Before the Skies--Haale, ft. Sean Lennon, Thomas Bartlett, & Dougie Bowne‬

From the film 'Caravan of Light' by Sahar Farmanfarmanian. 'Andar deleh maast' means 'Is in our hearts...' loose translation of the first line: what is dearest in us is the fire in our hearts that never dies.
