Top juniors play on Maui to decide players of year

Dec. 02--Many of Hawaii's finest juniors will play in the Hali'imaile Pineapple Co. Tournament of Champions, this weekend at Wailea's Emerald Course.

Among the champions competing are Eimi Koga, Allisen Corpuz, Sian Rogers, Mariel Galdiano, Ciera Min, Millburn Ho, Ryan Kuroiwa, Rudy Cabalar Jr., Lorens Chan, Cassy Isagawa, Kacie Komoto and Marissa Chow.

This is the last opportunity for golfers to earn points toward Hawaii State Junior Golf player of the year honors in each age division. Also, the top boy and girl from each island will be eligible to participate in the 2011 Junior Golf Day on Jan. 2 in conjunction with the Hyundai Tournament of Champions at Kapalua Plantation. There they will team with a PGA pro and celebrity.

Plenty golf and plenty wine

Makalei Golf Club's next golf and wine-tasting event, "Golf Nine with Plenty Wine," will be Dec. 10.

A nine-hole round starts at 3 p.m. and will be followed by a sunset wine tasting. The tournament format is alternate-shot, two-person teams. Prizes will be awarded. Wine, music and pupus start at 5:30 p.m.

The golf is limited to the first 20 two-person teams to register. The wine tasting is open to anyone 21 or older, with or without golf.

The cost is $60 per team (or $30 for an individual), or $15 for the wine tasting only. Advance reservations are required. Call Makalei at 1-808-325-6625.

Kaanapali featured on Golf Channel

Golf Channel is in the midst of eight airings of "Golf Now: Kaanapali."

The show includes golf and all kinds of other Maui activities, along with guest appearances from Iron Chef Morimoto, Mick Fleetwood and Olympic gold-medal skier Julia Mancuso, who has a house on Maui.

The final five shows are at noon and 5:30 p.m. Sunday, 11 a.m. Monday, 9 p.m. Tuesday and 9:30 p.m. Dec. 12.
