2008: The Year In Fleetwood Mac!!!
I thought it would be fun to kinda assess the year (2008) in Fleetwood Mac, actual artistic output and other events.
Here's the Fleetwood Mac-related buzz in 2008 that I can think of (please let me know if I'm missing anything): RELEASES Lindsey Buckingham: Gift Of Screws (CD, Vinyl, iTunes) Lindsey Buckingham: Did You Miss Me (Single) (iTunes) Lindsey Buckingham: Live At The Bass Performance Hall (CD/DVD, DVD) Stevie Nicks: Soundstage (PBS, Blu-Ray) Christine Perfect: The Complete Blue Horizon Sessions (CD) The Mick Fleetwood Blues Band (feat. Rick Vito): Blue Again! (CD) The Mick Fleetwood Blues Band: "Where The Wind Blows" (track), Love Ride 25 (iTunes) Mick Fleetwood: Eve of Destruction 2.1 (Single) by McGuinn, McGuire, Fleetwood and Smallwood (iTunes) Mick Fleetwood: "Grafton Street" (track), Safe Trip Home by Dido (iTunes) Jeremy Spencer: In Session / In Concert (iTunes, DVD, CD) Peter Green: The Anthology (CD) Dave Mason: 26 Letters 12 Notes (CD, iTunes) Bekka Bramlett: "What Happened" (track), The Imus Ranch Record (iTunes) COVERS & REMIXES "Silver Springs" (track), The Imus Ranch Project by Patty Loveless (iTunes) "Trouble" (track), Covers EP by French Kicks (iTunes) Own Way 08 - EP, Steve Murano (iTunes v.1, iTunes v.2) EVENTS Lindsey Buckingham: Gift of Screws Tour (09/07/08 - 10/19/08) Stevie Nicks: June '08 Tour(?) But in the meantime, what do people think about the Mac in '08? I think it's been an exciting year. I know over at my blog, it's been difficult to keep up on the news and even with the output of the artists. Lindsey's album is, in my opinion, the best album of 2008 (above Mariah Carey, The Wedding Present, Dolly Parton, Beyonce, The Killers, The Ting Tings, Vampire Weekend, The B-52s, Ne-Yo, Al Green, The Pussycat Dolls). I also feel that "Did You Miss Me" was the single of the year. I used it to get a number of people, including my aunt and uncle to go out and buy the album. I got to see both Stevie and Lindsey in solo concert for the first time!!! And was close enough to touch them. That was eye-opening. I got to see first-hand that Lindsey is in peak creative form. His live rendition of "Shut Us Down" made me cry. I learned that Stevie has IT -- that magical quality of charisma that makes a star. That was commemorated for me with the Soundstage airings on PBS where I heard anew songs like "How Still My Love" and once again thrilled to a Live version of "Edge of Seventeen" I get to listen to or watch as often as I want. Jeremy Spencer's In Session iTunes release was a perfect follow-up to his really quite wonderful 2006 Precious Little. The track "Psychic Waste" gets replayed here -- standing as my personal anthem/armor for the worst movies offered in 2008. I thank him for that. The Christine Perfect Blue Horizon gave me my fullest taste yet of the Christine Perfect album (which I still don't own). It's great to hear her beginnings as an artist (I also have the Chicken Shack Blue Horizon collection). I need to give it more listens though. Oh and Bekka Bramlett rocks! Her "What Happened" kicked the butt of Patty Loveless' "Silver Springs" on the same album.

Lindsey's album and tours were certainly a highlight of 2008. And I'm so proud of GOS, the song. I never noticed it in the demos, but it came to life for me this year.
Stevie's Soundstage made me really like Crash. I'd seen it live at and was not at all impressed with it before, but it really rocked on Soundstage. One of the best songs she did that night. Michele |

OMG, I forgot to include covers (and remixes) in releases. Hmmmm... any Mac covers this year?
Here's what I could think of: COVERS & REMIXES "Silver Springs," Patty Loveless, The Imus Ranch Project "Trouble," French Kicks, Covers EP Own Way 08 - EP, Steve Murano (links updated above) Hopefully, Vampire Weekend will get its act together and actually release "Everywhere." -- even as a live track.

I was listening to my Mac in 2008 Playlist on my ipod this morning. The Dave Mason album is a lot of fun. I recommend to fans of rock-n-roll. Not sure it's deep stuff, but it's music made by someone born to make music. I don't get that feeling listening to a lot of the new bands that get all the critical acclaim.
ETA: (figured out the "Where the Wind Blows" question)
