So 'NO' to the question. |

I'm going to say 'no'. I just have a feeling that, as long as things stay happy with Dave, she may well do it again, and much sooner than you'd think.
As someone said, she's learning that there's more than one way to do things, and changing your creative habits can be massively energising. My sincere hope is that what we are seeing is just the beginning of a slow dismantling of some of Stevie's self-imposed limitations. Dave, bless him, needs to keep chipping away at her (so to speak). No, I reckon if it's a critical success, she'll make another one. Commercial success would be the icing on the cake, for Stevie; I think.
Although, if she does another album so soon, it wouldn't chart as well, I would think. I'm expecting IYD to chart so high because of the whole "ten years" thing. Even if Stevie doesn't personally make a new Studio album, she has loads of unreleased materials that could be comprised into several albums. Her record company could always clean them up for a quick cash-grab.

Well I have a feeling this album will be a good one.....going by Stevie's excitement alone. If it flops....I don't know. Most older acts don't know when to quit. I don't know about Stevie. Anyway. I voted no.

I am really, really puzzled by the people who assume this is her last solo album. What is that based on? The fact that she is busier than ever as a working musician? The fact that she still loves to write songs? The fact that she turned her house into a recording studio? The fact that she has never mentioned the prospect of retiring? The fact that she still appears to be in excellent health? I recall as far back as 2005 that people were saying that she was done. Yes, it's been a long time since her last solo album. But the fact remains that she has never really stopped working in all that time. She resisted recording new music because of the state of the music industry, not because she was creatively bankrupt or tired of doing it. Now that she has accepted the state of the music industry for what it is, she can resume doing what she loves again in earnest. She is probably as disappointed that ten years has passed as the rest of us.

As far as being her last solo recording, arguments can be made for IYD being a success or a failure to continue recording. If it's a success - she may be catapulted, re-energized and get a big boost of confidence to capitalize on Dave'e statement to her about having all those songs left to record and not waste much time next outing. If it's a failure, I have a hard time thinking Stevie would want her last solo album to be a stinker and go unnoticed, So I can also see her dusting off her chops, one more time, for another ambitious solo album, maybe even finally release her Rhiannon songs on record. Bottom line is anything can happen at this juncture in her career. I'd venture she has at least another 4-7 years *gulp* before she retires, barring health problems, and she is going to make the most of this precious time. Needless to say, I vote no. |

I really don't know. A couple of years ago, I would've said that TISL was her last one. It seemed like she was not interested in recording again at all. I think it will probably depend on how this whole experience ends up for her (after the release date, tour, media appearances, etc.). She obviously really enjoyed making the album, so if it's well-received critically & by the fans (whether it sells a million copies or 100,000) and the tour is positive experience for her, I think she may well make another one.

I believe that Stevie will either go in 3 different directions from here for the rest of her existence...
1. She doesn't tour anymore but still records new songs/albums to feed her creative juices. Maybe she'll just release songs here and there via itunes or whatever to generate some money. Maybe she'll do a couple shows a year. (Wishful thinking I know but you never know) 2. She doesn't do anymore albums and just tours at casinos and fairgrounds and what have you until she's tired of it. 3. She does the FM album and tour and retires...working on her Rhiannon movie, art, maybe releasing some books with her journal pages/poetry...she really does have a number of options outside of music that can keep her somewhat relevant. Grace Slick retired and got an art gallery going. But as she said before: "If you can't rock 'n roll...you're old." |

I also feel that if she or FM retires they would make it official with a farewell tour and everything else. Maybe not.

It's obvious that she was depressed about Shangri-La because of 9/11
Now that it's 2011 (10 years later) maybe she will look at this as her solo career picking up again from where it left off back in 2001 (album wise) - this will give her a chance to refresh and restart. |

No way is Stevie quitting. We may start to hear different lyrics, as this guy suggests:
There's a lot of Stevie possibilities! |

Being the eternal Stevie optimist that I am I hate to admit this but I voted yes. Simply for the fact that she is 62 and I know for a fact it takes a lot both physically and mentally to promote and album let alone tour and realistically I don't see her doing it at 70. With that said I absolutely think there will be one more FM album with a supporting tour and totally think she'll still be infultrating us with her art but not in the form of a new released solo album.
