A well-deserved award!

Oh, sorry, Mike--I'm talking about this one:

I am one of the world's biggest Mike Campbell fans. He should have won this award every single year he toured with Petty.

That said, how do you consider for this award someone who is largely playing someone else's solos, and not improving them?

From what I've heard, he's the best part of the show. Congratulations, Mike!

Exactly. So I assume he earnt his nomination with his revolutionary keyboard playing on Gypsy.

Again, not a keyboard. It’s a Marxophone.

Even though I thought christine should be playing that, I didn't mind that he did it. Gave some authenticity to the song. I like "real" instruments.

Not going to argue that. In fact, Christine should be seen playing it as she claims to be the keyboardist of FMac.

I'm just glad it wasn't piped in from the sampler.

I’m guessing Mike is playing it on a Marxophone (again, not a keyboard) because of the way it sounds. It’s easy to play on guitar, like Lindsey did, but a Marxophone isn’t something all too common. Christine never played that part, even in 1982.

I know she didn't. Used to irritate me back then, too.

Well! Do educate me, Steve--Is the vaunted Marx-o-phone named after the Marx Brothers? Because it's certainly always a laugh to see Mike playing it.

Named after its inventor, Henry Charles Marx.
