Now that would sure be interesting especially because in Judaism, ajewishness is passed down through the mother (so technically if your father is Jewish but your mother is not, you're not Jewish). But obviously if there is Jewish blood there somewhere in Stevie's family it must be pretty far back.

I'm Jewish so I'd love it if this were true. Can't say I know any Jewish people with the last name Meeks that I can think of but judging jewishness by surname is a bit more complex considering Judaism is such a unique mix of culture, religion, and really to a lesser degree ethnicity. Throw in that Jews at some point or another have lived in virtually every region of the world and while intermarriage is probably more common than ever, it's not really new. Conversion to Judaism has happened throughout time or far more commonly Jews converted to another religion either by force or by choice. My own last name isn't one most people would think was inherently Jewish and some of the names people think of first when they think Jewish surnames, like names ending in "berg" or "stein" aren't really Jewish in origin but German.

Anyway long story short, I know Jewish Smiths and johnsons and non Jewish Kleins and Bergsteins! A considerable number of people do have Jewish ancestry somewhere along the line but many don't know it. Maybe somewhere back in Stevie's line is say an English or German Jew. Who knows. Stevie should go on one of those celebrity ancestery shows!

Here's an interesting thing.

I have done a tremendous amount of work on my family tree with Ancestry.com (an amazing resource).

After seeing this question, I went on Ancestry (everything is public record) and started creating a "Nicks" tree. As you conduct your search, the site cross-references and allows you to view other family tree researchers with the same family members. There are many trees for this family. If the owner permits, you can view them.

Jess Nicks' line goes back to the 1500's in England. by the 1700's, they were in the states. That is very unusual but the research supports it. As far as any research on Barbara's family, results also show that her ancestors were rooted in this country (U.S.A.) as far back as the 1600's as well. If I strike gold on any european ancestry for Barbara I'll let you know.

It is very interesting go through this process. It is a lot of work and often very tedious. Thank God a lot of "Nicksians" already did a lot of work on the trees and allow viewing. If any of you have an account with Ancestry I recommend checking it out. Otherwise I'm busy enough working on my own family tree. It is very enjoyable though.

Hope this shed some light.

Happy New Year all.

Bob

The only authentic Americans are the native Indians who were systematically eradicated when English and European entrepreneurs settlers came to town. We are all a mix of different heritages.
